I really have to compliment this store for cpmplete satisfaction regarding the Mens Dept. Shirts. I needed new shirts for two very important functions in the last couple of weeks. Tried everywhere to get what I wanted but no luck. Debenhams to the rescuefantastic stock of shirts and well priced. Well done and Thanks++

Debenhams has so many sections(and floors) that despite the informative signage hanging from the ceiling approximately every five feet, most people still walk around looking lost. I’m not a fan of this department store, mostly because they’re on the pricey end of kitchenware, clothing, luggage, furniture,(etc, etc) and yet cannot manage to keep the ladies room less than disgusting. I suppose I expect middle to high end shops to provide facilities of an equal standard. I’m not exaggerating either — one time a bathroom stall was being held together by duct tape.

Big bland Debenhams serves a purpose, and with it’s wide range of stock, plenty of changing rooms, and friendly staff, I can’t see it dying out any time soon. This store isn’t huge, but nothing is in Brighton, and it’s certainly the biggest department store in central Brighton. You’ll find all your usual components, from fragance to a clothes, to a café. If you need something smart for work, or a specific clothing item and don’t have time to hunt for it, this is the place to go, and there’re often sales on too.

Debenhams is like a time capsule. Every time I offer to take my mum shopping and we’ve done every other store in the city from M&S to Wallis, she swears she just wants to ‘Pop in Debenhams for 5 minutes.’ And of course, we always emerge weighed down by bags one or two hours later. This particular branch is tiny compared to the Manchester and London stores but they still manage to squeeze a lot of stock in. The ground floor is mainly occupied by accessories, shoes, perfume and make-up counters from Clarins to Benefit whilst the first floor has a strong selection of bed, bath, kitchen and dining room goodies. There’s also a small childrens-wear department. The reason my mum loves this store however, is for the womens wear in the basement. There’s air conditioning, three changing room areas and small subsidiaries of Wallis, Red Herring, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Top Shop, Oasis, Coast and Red Herring amongst others. Right now, there’s also a Blue Cross sale on — which means 70% off for card-holders. Hang on, I think my mobile’s ringing…

Three floors, inside the shopping centre, with big exits on the ground and sub-levels, and a quick way out to the car parks — not bad at all for access. Inside, there’s lots of concessions — it still feels like an old fashioned department store in that aspect, though its not, of course. There’s a huge amount of ladies clothes, from fairly cheap up to really, really expensive. They have a lot of money-off promotions, so if you know there’s something you want, it could be worth waiting for. I used to have a storecard, and while I remembered about paying it off each month so as not to incur charges, I hadn’t sussed the automatic insurance option — when I complained, customer services not only refunded the tiny charge(it was the principle!) but cancelled the insurance option for me. Not the cheapest, but the service level really is excellent, and along with Boots it has one of the best Clarins sections I’ve seen.

Although I find it hard to class Debenhams as a Department Store there is no denying that it does stock the widest range of clothes/homeware in the town. Set on three floors the ground floor is dedicated to clothes, lingerie, and shoes. The middle floor luggage, make up and accessories. And on the top floor homeware and a café. The shop is always busy but there are pleanty of staff. Best bit in my opinion is the concessions section where there are concessions from topshop, warehouse, oasis and Jane Norman. There is also a wide selection of Debehamas own range clothing. For me the shop lacks atmosphere and I would prefer to visit the individual shops(but I think I’d probably be in the minority in this respect !)

This large department store consists of 3 floors: mens & cosmetics, womens and home ware. The designers for Debenhams have high quality clothing with warm yet light materials. They also do many in-store promotions(to counter the credit crunch), so last time I saved 30% and just bought all the xmas shopping there. I believe during the xmas period, this place opens til 10/11pm — which is unusual for shops in Brighton. overall, a spacious and friendly-staffed atmosphere.
