Uumm, not a massive fan of H&M. The quality of the clothing is usually pretty poor, the shop quite often resembles a jumble sale, and the staff can be less than helpful. That said, it’s sometimes useful for picking up the basics such as tights, leggings and vest tops, just don’t expect them to last more than a couple of washes.

I do like some of the clothes in here and they are obviously famous for being cheap. I bought a lovely jacket from them years ago and its still going strong now! My only hang-up is that most of their produce is made in places like Cambodia where I am a little dubious about their employment ethics.

H & M used to be the best place to pick up super cheap on trend fashion. These days its been surpassed by miles by Primark both in terms of design and price point. Its series of designer collaborations, while creating much hysteria, have been very much hit and miss, and the rest of its range mostly wouldn’t look out of place on your mum. Still, well worth having a dig through on a Saturday afternoon, if you are down the shops anyway though.

My weekend job required me to get some decent clothing. I guess wearing my outdated«Adult Swim» t-shirt and jogging pants wouldn’t be a sufficient way to greet customers. Since I was low on cash, I needed to find some way to get good looking clothes, at an affordable price. My boss said, «Just go to H&M and get something nice.» So that’s what I did. I found a very decent pair of jeans and a few polo-shirts at a very cheap price. And as it’s a bit windy at the moment, I decided to purchase a checkered scarf as well. I found their selection to be quite limited all-in-all though, and it took me quite some time to find the clothing I ended up leaving the store with. I went back to work with a bag full of H&M clothing. I showed what I bought to my boss and asked, «Are these alright?» And she said, «Good enough.» Good enough? I’d say that the clothing at H&M is much better than«good enough». Decent selection at decent prices makes it a great store if you’re interested in looking presentable without emptying your wallet.

H&M might not be the high street giant it used to be in the 80s and 90s but this new flagship store still stocks a great selection of fashionable and timeless pieces for both women and men. Since this season’s theme is gothic you can currently find jeans, tees, blouses, cardigans and jumpers in every shade of black and grey imaginable. There’s also a small range of similar items in other autumnal colours like dark red, green, indigo and purple. I saw a few items I liked and would have tried on but the fact most of the clothes seem to have been designed with skinny minnies with tiny breasts and hips in mind made me realise it was highly unlikely any of them would fit me! I would venture back next time I go shopping but in all honesty, I’d probably stick to their knitwear, underwear, scarves, gloves and accessories. Note to the designers — There’s nothing more depressing than going into a store and realising the only clothes designed for more curvy and voluptous gals are in the Maternity section!

The new H&M was big news in Brighton. Possibly my favourite high street store, I remember a time when anyone who was anyone owned a grey H&M hoodie. Nowadays they’ve moved on to having a much broader range of clothes, especially for guys and with the opening of this second store in the city The Churchill Square outlet was okay, but the men’s range was pretty poor and the store often cluttered and understaffed. The new store however, is a revelation. It has a generous menswear section that is easy to navigate with the clothes properly organised and displayed in a way that makes you actually want to buy them. The attraction of H&M is its fashion-forward lines that are available at very affordable prices. You can look good for a nominal fee, which is never a bad thing. When I look at H&M, I wonder what the Swedes can possibly do wrong. When I look at Swedish girls I wonder what the Swedes can possibly do wrong. When I look at Saabs and Volvos I wonder what the Swedes can possibly do wrong. When I drink Absolut Vodka and Kopparberg cider I wonder what the Swedes can possibly do wrong. Then I look at Sven Goran Eriksson and realise what the Swedes can do wrong!

This is the new GIANT H&M on Western Road in the old Woolworths site. It seems to house pretty much every item H&M produce for men, women and children. It has a sleeker, more mature décor and atmosphere than the H&M in Churchill Square which seems aimed squarely at the under twenties. When I walked into this branch I felt slightly more inclined to look through the racks– with many of the skeletal mannequins modeling more formal edgy clothes that might fit with my student/professional lifestyle. When I properly took clothes out to examine though they STILL felt and looked very flimsy and badly made. So, I tried. I went in and was impressed by the fittings and fixtures… but no, I can’t bring myself to buy such cheap clothes at pretty uncheap prices.
