Great cakes in true Parisian style freshly made in Brighton. Around Christmas time they make and sell amazing French ‘Galettes de Roi’ cakes — complete with a crown on top and porcelain favours inside.

I went in here for a take away of the desserts in the window… I am such a sucker for food porn and sweets! I got the apricot tart which was delicious! Dried apricots and a lot of mixed nuts covered with a sweet syrup type thing in a pastry shell, yum… and then a lavender and chocolate cookie which was also very good!

Great place to head to for some excellent coffee and very rich, tasty food. I usually get everything to go and have a sit in the park on a nice day. The ham and cheese croisants are fantastic and really fresh. Check what soup they have available as they can be excellent. They have to many pudding options to mention and all are very nice and extremely decadent but now and again it doesn’t hurt to treat yourself. Friendly staff that always seem to be in a good, chirpy mood.

Cocoa is an amazing French patisserie styled like a Parisian café. It offers an array of amazing posh cakes, tarts and puddingy things as well as a fab selection of coffees. Its a great place to grab a posh afternoon tea and cake, they also do take out coffee for all the offices nearby. The chef was trained by the world famous Raymond Blanc which I think speak volumes about the quality of the food on offer.

Sugar Butter Flour Chocolate Fruit & Vanilla Extract Seperately, none of these ingredients dazzle or wow me. When they’re combined into award-winning cakes, flans or tarts however, I find them pretty hard to resist. Yesterday for example, I popped into Cocoa to grab a coffee and pain au chocolat for the train and ended up leaving with a meringue and a bag of pastel coloured macaroons. Both were so damn deeeeeelicious that I’m already planning to go back and sample some of the other deserts on offer. Next time, I might start with a Raspberry and Passion Fruit Delice or a Slow Cooked Apple Tart followed by a slice of Tiger Cake or Coffee and Walnut Cake. The thing I’ve been dreaming about however, is Cocoa’s Vanilla and Raspberry Eclairs.

OHLALA, all in the name of research. I stumbled upon this petite pattisserie by complete accident while trying to find a new shortcut home, and am I glad I walked the wrong way down Queen’s Road! The front window is delightfully decorated with REAL french delicate pasteries such as Passion Fruit Flan, Crème Brioche, Macaroons that range from Violet to Chocolate and colossal Merengues. I wouldn’t have taken much more for me to enter Cocoa, but when I saw the full lunch menu I was feeling tres jolie! It was a hard choice between the specials or a Tartine served on fresh Walnut bread, but my pallete was craving brunch, so the Leek and Parma Ham Quiche seemed like a smart choice. The quiche was light and fluffy and was served with Three different salads that left me more than full. I sat for a bit while I sipped my tea from a proper China tea cup and wondered what my next choice would be? possibly a Pan Au Chocolate? As I was leaving to pay the bill I thought, again in the name of research that I had to take something home for an afternoon snack. I just had an apple square that was filled with tart Granny Smith Apples, and a tea. The perfect way to watch the sun go down.

For a light meal to satisfy you until lunch, this charming French patisserie has a Parisian feel running through it thick and fast. With an abundance of artistically created croissants, cakes and pastries, it’s a lovely haunt for a more continental breakfast. Everything is made on the premises ensuring a deliciously fresh eating experience. And no authentic European breakfast is without its caffeine, Cocoa offers a variety of coffees and organic and fair-trade teas.

Newly arrived Cocoa provides a very welcome addition to Queen’s Road, an all-in-all dreary street consisting of a pawn shop, a tesco’s, job agencies, letting agencies and a western union, with smatterings of other nicer shops(see fairtrade clothes shop Fair). Saying that, I hope its location doesn’t play it out — with these more upmarket shops tending to find more business in the Lanes or North Laine. Anyway, let’s not let such wariness hinder our experience of this place — a cosy little French café/patisserie with simply gorgeous(and v.v. rich) food. You’ll find luxurious pastries, cakes and other treats, all supremely decorated and presented. They do savoury items too, with a yummy onion soup which can be got as takeway for £2.99. All in all a welcome retreat on Queen’s Road, and a great place to treat yourself sometime!

Ooooooh My Goooooooodness… delicious! Looking into the window of this beautiful French patisserie made me feel like a little girl just five years old with big round eyes, staring in to a sweet shop! The window display is gorgeous… intricate little pastries, colourful fairy cakes and other frilly little sugary fancies stare back at you, begging to be sampled! If you’re in town and in need of a pick-me-up treat, this is the ideal place. The inside is traditional with excellent attention to detail… Cocoa feels like the real deal. I half expected to walk out of the shop and on to the Champs-Élysées! Alas, I found myself back on grimy old Queens Rd. Still, a perfect place to escape from the chaos of town and enjoy a hot chocolate and a devilishly indulgent cake. This would be a great place to pick up a selection of treats for a fun birthday cake alternative. But be warned, Cocoa’s pastries are delicious but very rich indeed, you won’t need more than one or two!

Cocoa is a proper Parisian patisserie experience in the heart of Brighton! Situated just down from Brighton Station its a great stop off for an authentic coffee and pastry for your journey. The décor is heavily inspired by the french capital with a artwork featuring the Eiffel tower with large mirrors, dark wood furniture and lots of deep reds through out. The cakes are absolutely amazing just to look at and of course they taste fab as well, apparently the chef was trained by Raymond Blanc, Sacré bleu!
