This is a cheese lovers dream! I always like to go in before Christmas to pick some cheese up to take back home for the family. The staff here are so knowledgeable and helpful. I wanted a selection of cheese and had a budget, so the chap went through the 6 different types of cheese and explained the best to get. So we went all around the shop looking at the different cheeses. I pretty much went for his recommendations! We even stuck to the budget and I came out with plenty of cheese! I’m looking forward to sampling it over Christmas and will of course be back! Would love to experience the wine and cheese nights they put on. One thing I was a bit upset about was the lack of their port infused stilton(had some trouble with it apparently) but it just means I’ll have to go back again to get it!

Never thought I’d get so excited about cheese but the passion and energy behind the organisation is really impressive. The staff explained our cheese board by informing us of each piece’s background, recipe and the different methods used to make the cheeses. I would warn that for anyone who hasn’t tried this place yet should be comfortable trying seriously pungent cheeses because the board really took me by surprise! We also had the meat board which had cured pork and a pork pâté. It was delicious and complemented the cheese really well. I have to mention the wine– I very rarely get excited about wine but the one we had here was SOGOOD. it was a heavy red but it was so, so delicious and still had a sweetness to it and no bitter aftertaste. I’d seriously recommend this place to anyone. The boards don’t look filling and I have a huge appetite but we left so full! You can see the staff are really passionate about the cheese which is great to see and I love being somewhere where you feel like you’re paying for an experience, not just a meal.

My new favourite place ! Made two visits in past few days to pick up various cheese, meats and bread. Read some reviews about terrible staff which in my experience is the opposite of what I have had ! First time a young French guy assisted finding my cheeses and tasting them, very knowledgeable and friendly. Today I went and was assisted buy what I assume to be the owner or manager, again tasted some amazing cheese and meats and given his personal recommendation on a delightful orange cheese and then was even told when my bill came to 21.75 to call it 20 ! Can’t say how much I love this place !

Wer vom Kontinent kommt, kennt sehr viele Sorten hier. Aber die Auswahl an british cheese ist großartig. Die Frage nach Wenslaydale aber könnt ihr euch sparen. We don’t sell it. Zu gewöhnlich… :-) gibts im Supermarkt. Das nur am Rande. Sonst ist der Laden ein must! Kleingeld nicht vergessen, Qualität ist nicht umsonst.

Heaven for cheese lovers! But probably best avoided if you are not a cheese fan, the aromas can be quite over-powering as you walk through the door! Luckily, I fit into the first category, and this makes La Cave a Fromage one of my all time favourite places on earth. It is mainly a cheese shop selling some of Britain and Europe’s finest cheeses. You can pretty much fine anything here that you could desire — hard, soft, strong, mild, the kind of cheese that seeps across your plate… you catch my drift. As well as cheese, they also see a wide range of charcuterie, my favourite being the duck. Fresh bread, oils, chutneys and the like are also available, as well as take out sandwiches. The staff here are very knowledgable regarding all things cheese, and will help you pick out something for yourself or as an interesting gift for any cheese loving friends or family. I will certainly be coming back to stock up pre-christmas. Its not cheap, but your paying for quality, well sourced products, so it’s worth splashing out. As well as the shop side, they have an area at the back where you can eat in. The menu mainly consists of cheese and charcuterie tasting plates, but they also do a few other cheese-based hot dished such as tartiflette and raclette. But lets face it, you come here for the cheese in its pure form. I have eaten here a few times now and all of the platters have been amazing. Served alongside fresh crunchy bread it really feels like you are in food heaven. The wine list is extensive and top quality, making excellent pairings with the cheese. They also hold tasting events every couple of weeks and I definitely plan to attend in the new year. Again, the service is generally good although the waiter did seem a little harassed on our last visit, and you may get rushed out of the door if it’s getting close to 10pm. I’ll put this down to Christmas mania though and forgive them on this occasion. Lets face it, when the cheese is this good, a little surliness can be forgiven!

La Cave au Fromage on Western Road is a cheese lover’s paradise. I often pop in and always linger to admire their wonderful display of European and British cheeses. They also do exciting tastings and offer some wine and cheese evenings too. The best cheese shop in Brighton and Hove.

Fun and intelligent service combined with the best cheese you will ever taste. A cheese platter has original and interesting ones to try(not the usual brie, cheddar, etc). I had one that tasted like a cloud! The atmosphere is great to to just hang out and have a conversation(unlike the overly loud pubs where you leave witha sore throat). Macaroons were way overrated and overpriced. But everything else there is superb with phenomenal quality. It is simply my favorite place to eat in Brighton.

Do you love cheese? Well if you do even the smallest amount you are going to adore this place. The staff are superb and really know their stuff. The cheese selection is exceptional. It’s a heady mix of English, French, Spanish etc with charcuterie, biscuits, pastes etc. Check out the Lancashire Bomb it’s not to be missed and the Buffalo Blue is stunning. These cheese are not cheap, but they are worth every penny. We attended one of their tasting evenings last year and that was a real treat too. I just can’t pass by the place if it’s open

Three of us went in for lunch and a glass of wine. We were given a selection of cheeses and charcuterie, which the waiter explained to us. Oddly, although there were three diners, each piece of cheese was cut into two halves, which made distribution very difficult. We questioned this with the waiter, who told us that this was the way he had been told to present the food. He had trouble seeing the difficulty in diving two(incidentally very small) pieces of cheese between three people. We let the matter drop in the end, as it was going nowhere! Everything was delicious, but the portions were absolutely tiny and in no way could the selection be described as anything approaching a meal. I’d describe it as ‘nibbles’ — and skimpy ones at that. Not worth £10 per head, but the flavours were divine. The shop has a fantastic selection of lovely food, and it is not too hard to find someone knowledgeable to advise on your purchases. Would not eat there again, but it is a lovely place to treat yourself to some take-away delights.

Cheese is my favourite thing in the world ever, so this review may be a little biased as a result. But WOW! I’ve been here a few times now, twice to eat in and twice to take away and each time has been a real pleasure. On the times I’ve stayed to eat at La Cave it’s been quiet but there’s a friendly, relaxed feel to the eating area. You can ask for a selection of cheese and meat with a couple of glasses of wine and you’re good to go. Perfect for a light meal with friends. However, what I love doing most is getting a mountain of cheese and meat to bring home. I’ll tend to walk in with a budget, describe how many mouths I need to feed and then enjoy sampling all the incredible cheese and meats they have on offer. The service here is amazing — they’re very patient and happy to let me wander around for a while just tasting different variations. The staff here seem to really know their stuff and if something doesn’t taste right to me they will generally have some recommendations of what will. It makes for a fun dinner to bring back and enjoy with friends, and they also sell crusty bread and a variety of wines to go with your food.

If you love cheese, wine and chartcuterie then this is the place to go. Really knowledgeable staff(chap with moustache) who on my visit went the extra mile with excellent service.

This place was fantastic! I went looking for some unpasteurized sheep and goats cheese. One of the employees(don’t know the name for a cheese expert) came to assist me, and to my delight found out almost all of their cheese is unpasteurized(raw dairy is where its at). The gentleman took his time showing me a large selection of cheeses, letting me taste some, and gave great recommendations. The place is awesome… and they also hair wine and cheese tasting platters, or in the evening a wine and cheese pairing. 6 cheeses and 6 wines. YUM! Book ahead of time as they sell out fast. This place is a must to check out.
