Friendly service, warm welcome — a nice place to be. Big enough to be anonymous but small enough to feel a valued customer.

This place pretends to be a classy, cool bar and it just really isn’t. It’s basically where chavs and students go to feel a bit posh. On the weekends It’s always packed full of idiots who think they’re ‘dressed up’ smartly and it’s blaring garish tunes so loud you can barely hear the person standing right next to you. I personally think its overpriced for what it is, it’s a jumped up whetherspoons. My heart always sinks when my already drunk friends steer me in here for one.

I must have gone on the wrong night — we tried to go once and were turned away, so went back the next night and were really disappointed. Almost witnessed a fight(the security guards were really on top of their game), paid too much for a beer and left as soon as we finished it.

I’ve been to a couple of these cocktail bars and they make mean jugs of fruit tingles. From the outside of this venue the place looked kind of small but looks can be deceiving. This venue was a decent size and had views overlooking the ocean but just didn’t have the crowd it should of had. The staff were very friendly and constantly checking everything was ok(probably a little too frequently but I guess they were bored due to lack of customers). They had a five pound drink and meal promo happening at the time I went there. Despite them running out of the particular meal I wanted I went with ordering the scampi and salad which was pretty snack sized portion(I didn’t expect much more to be honest). My boyfriend had the lasagne and salad to which he commented was standard and nothing special. When I am back in Brighton in summer I will be back here for a beverage or two for sure!

I wouldn’t want to spend more than a coulpe of hours in this place as it really doesn’t have a lot of character but it is a nice place to include on bar crawl or to pop in for a cheeky cocktail. I’ve never eaten in here as it does seem a little pricey but the menu looks quite impressive. They pour a mean mojito in here which I can highly reccomend and they often have some drink deals on so definitely worth popping in to see whats occuring. Staff have always been friendly and you generally get a good crowd at the bar.

As pubs in the Lanes go, you’re a little spoilt for choice. Everything is available, from cheap boozers to high-class bars, and Pitcher and Piano is somewhere in between. However, it clearly has delusions of grandeur: a pretty penny has been spent on the décor, and drinks seem to be a fair whack above the average price, in some cases. However, the clientele that frequent this particular bar do draw it down a little in my estimation. Pitcher and Piano does bill itself as a gastro-pub, however I doubt anyone comes out planning to end up here. The food is not very good, typical pub fare done poorly, and the prices are just ridiculous, considering everything here is available nearby for, in some cases, half the price. Add on top of that that anything to drink beyond a pint of lager is extremely expensive, and you can see my reticence to come back. Also, the clientele that frequent do leave something to be desired. All of the pubs in this area, who all seem to offer lager at a very cheap price, are clearly trying to attract the more boozy, student-y crowd, and it does make them all loud, aggressive, and unpleasant to spend long hours in. A shame, but I suppose these lager-swilling louts have to go somewhere! I recognise that this is a matter of taste; this is not my sort of place at all. There’s nothing wrong with pubs that aim at this kind of clientele, it just surprises me how much effort has gone into the gastro side of this pub, when I don’t think their target market will ever shell out just under a tenner for a roast dinner! Maybe all of the décor is meant to cover up this fact, instead of encourage it. Nevertheless: if you fancy a pint of beer, and probably quite a few after that, Pitcher and Piano is a great place to start an evening. If you’re looking for anything more refined, give it a miss.

In Exeter(where I originally came from) you’ll find that the local Pitcher and Piano is awful, so when I came here, I avoided it like the plague. But when forced to visit, I actually discovered it was pretty good. On Friday’s they have buy one get one free on pitchers of cocktails, an absolute bargain. They also have offers like four beer’s for £10 and another few ones that vary each week. The inside is nice; it’s all a bit uniform ‘sexy lounge bar’, but there is a lot of space inside so that whether you’re a group, or on a date, you can get the seats you want. I’d recommend it really, especially when they have the happy hour like offers.

Pitcher and Piano mixes classy cocktail bar, with affordable boozer and the resultant space is immense. Not immense as in amazing, its just a lot bigger here than the entrance suggests. It seems to flip between being classy and budget as and when it needs to, with £9 buying a Sunday roast, but baguettes costing as much as £7.50… There are often drinks offers here, with many cocktails listed in a buy one get one free offer. I was particularly pleased with the under £2 price for a pint of Lager when I went, and ended up spending all my money buying other people drinks… Still, its a good place to start a night out, or to include in a pub crawl if you want to inject a bit of luxury rather than just grotty pub…

I would recommend pitcher and piano for nights with a purpose! i. e after business dinner, first date(and second or third date) and girl or guy talk between close friends. The drinks are slightly pricy at times but you can get excellent champaigne promotions and the drinks taste amazing. the lights are low and cosy and you will find an interesting crowd usually gathers there. Sit by the bar, relax and enjoy the crowd, the service and the company of your flirt/friends.

I thought this place was poncy and overpriced. Not my kind of thing at all. I thought the atmosphere was forced and it takes forever to get served.
