I was waiting for the moment when I will be able to say, what I think of this place… Basically, I came to LA fitness as a student, got a student discount, etc. They pushed me into a years contract, which, let’s say was acceptable, as they said, you can quit, if you leave the country, or don’t have any income. Ok. Let’s start. You come to the gym, where everything is all the time leaking, but you can still do your stuff, which is good. All those leaking problems rolled into the fact, that gym started shutting down every second week. It wouldn’t be annoying if you are sitting at home and you get an email informing about these problems, but when youre on the way to the gym, you bang into their door, and you see ‘sorry we’re closed’, thats really frustrating. I was mainly going for the swimming pool, which was also seldom working. Some people say it’s small and dirty, but I found it clean and big enough. I used to pop in on off-peak times, so enjoyed swimming on my own, which was great. Saunas were ok as well. Ive been to yoga classes, and they were also ok. Anyway, in half year, I decided to quit. As I mentioned, you can quit, if you don’t have any income. My bank account was empty, I didnt have a job, neither got a student loan, I coulnt waste my money on some ‘non-working-gym’. However, LA fitness didnt provide me with that promised opportunity to leave. So I was waiting till the end of the contract. And guess what? They continued charging me! I complained once, they promised me to return back my money, took my bank details, etc. Guess what? I had to complain after two months for the second time, because they didn’t manage to pay me after the first time. Overall, it took me ages, as services are provided only over the phone. OMG, thanks God, it’s over. Never gonna be back to that place, even it’s almost the only gym with a swimming pool.

Having been a member of LA Fitness for a year, it seems to be a gym that strongly divides people’s opinions. For me, as a gym class-goer, it was a wonderful gym. The classes are regular and varied and the instructors are encouraging, but not terrifying! They host pilates, spin, body combat, body pump and yoga classes amongst other things, so offer a really comprehensive selection. There’s an online booking system and an app that is relatively easy to manage also, which makes the process nice and simple, but you do have to get up very early to book in to classes as places go exceptionally(and at times, frustratingly) fast. On the flip side, if you like to go to a gym to use the equipment or swim, LA Fitness might not be the best option for you. The pool is humorously tiny, making a good swim fairly impossible when it’s busy, and the equipment during peak time can be very crowded. The weights area is a little intimidating as a woman, also, as it seems to be a gathering point for big, preening men and there is no available ‘women only’ area to my knowledge. That being said, all of the equipment was always clean and working and(from the point of view of someone who has no real in-depth knowledge of gym equipment) felt modern and well cared for. The staff here seem qualified and are friendly. I had one personal training session(free with my membership) that I booked a few weeks after a very minor back operation. The trainer was very attentive and knowledgeable and gave me good advice about workouts that would be suitable in my condition. At the end of the session I readied myself for a ‘hard-sell’ on booking in my next(not free) appointment, however this happily never came about. The trainer politely explained my options and casually told me to get in touch if I did want to schedule another session. My experience of this gym was very good, however I can only give it 3 stars as I realise that, overall, this gym lacks certain qualities that would make it appealing to and suitable for everyone.

I tried this gym for 10 days to look into seriously becoming a member. Since then, I have used it from time to time for various purposes but have never joined. The atmosphere of the gym turned me away. I heard complaints from gym members everyday(no exaggeration) and there wasn’t a single day that something wasn’t wrong(late instructors, broken ac, scratchy speakers, stolen items). These items were not fixed over the month that I was there. I’d rather go out of my way to go to a different gym. The gym was ok. It had everything I needed but nothing extra because it is quite small. The staff are horrible. They are young, dumb, and inconsiderate. They never have an answer to any question and always seem to bothered if you need any assistance. They are happy to leave you there without an answer– this happened to me on multiple occasions. The class timings are pretty good but there isn’t much variety. There just doesn’t seem to be any investment in this branch. On a positive note, it is clean and the gym attracts many beautiful people– much more than other gyms in the area.

I don’t like this place at all. The gym itself is always so busy and if you’re not a hardcore fitness fanatic you feel really out of place. The swimming pool is ridiculously small and doesn’t get more than 3 ft deep, which makes swimming quite hard. The sauna and steam room are not very clean and smell a bit. Their sales team is really pushy and irritating. Not at all worth the expensive membership fees.
