Cheap & cheerful — this bar was everything you’d expect from a Wetherspoons. The food is good and very reasonably priced. I had a chicken, bacon & avocado salad with a side of chips & a glass of wine for under £10! The bar is in the busy area near the seafront so I can imagine it getting busy at the weekends. It has a good mix of ages, unlike the other Wetherspoons around the corner that has a much older clientele.

So bad experience! Last Saturday, my friends and me decided to go for a dinner break to this place. Before starting to eat anything, I asked kindly for a scissors on the bar to cut a piece of linen of my bag. They told me that no scissors available, then I decided to ask them for a knife. What a surprise when they told me that no knife available FORME. Sorry! Am I a felon or similar? I told them… listen, I am with my friends just ordered I only need a scissors or knife to cut this piece of linen. They refused me again and I tried to speak to the Duty Manager. She– a young blonde lady– came and what a surprise when she told me that she was not allow to help me. Oh God! Then immediately I decided to stop my food and drink and to speak to my friends. They could not understand anything. When one of my friends went to the bar, the lady duty manager said in undertone to one of his colleague:” this Spanish gay again” in a derogatory way. My friend came to me and told me what he has just heard from the lady who is the Duty Manager! I decided to take a couple of pictures to do a review, when under order of the lady, the security guys from the door came to me very furious and treating me so badly! they told me that I was not allow to do pictures and to delete the pictures. All this scene in the middle of an large number of people — 9 pm Saturday-. Then I did not want, they took my mobile and the deleted with no permission my pictures. After that they took me as if I was a criminal and threw me away. I told them that I would post a review about this bad behaviour against me, and one of the security guy answered me: You are not in Spain, go away and don’t come any more. Really, still affected for the situation and I do not go out from that day. I am really surprised and disappointed. Any way, I hope to have been an exception, but I got a very bad Saturday

As Wetherspoons go this isn’t a bad one. It’s modern light and airy unlike some of it’s more dark and dingy counterparts. It’s got itself a great location, right in the middle of everything. There isn’t massive amounts of seating but with a bit of table rearrangment we fitted in nicely. As to be expected the drinks were pretty cheap. We started our nights here as it was an easy meeting point and it always seemed pretty busy. We popped in for breakfast too and that was well worth it.

Bright and airy Wetherspoons in the centre on Brighton. Great prices for food and drink, what isn’t there to like? This isn’t the largest pub situated within Brighton town centre. There is no outdoor seating either. I can see that this pub will get quite busy as it’s close to everything and as Brighton is a party town it will be popular starting point for a night out or for breakfast in the morning.

Nicely located in town this is a Wetherspoons pub that does what they all do. Cheap drinks & cloned food. You know what you are getting before you walk in and this place is not too bad as far as they go. There are better Wetherspoons in Newcastle and much much worse ones in London. This is somewhere in the middle.

Not really familiar with what’s good and what’s bad here because I’m basically a tourist. International student studying at Sussex for the summer but I thought this place was a bit small. My group had 7 people and we had to combine a table in order for all of us to fit but I think it’s more common to come to these places in smaller groups. I got a Tuna Melt and Hot Chocolate. The hot chocolate was pretty good, first I’ve tried in the UK so I have nothing to compare to but the cup is big compared to maybe a Denny’s from the US. Just by eating half the tuna melt filled me up but it was early on in the day so my appetite wasn’t that big to begin with. Ate the other half later on as left overs and it didn’t keep me full for long, only about 3 hours. Over all I think it’s a nice place to stop by and grab something to eat or drink.

Bright Helm is juast another Wetherspoons in my books. same old same bar downstairs, bar upstairs, but this one to me didn’t really portray a welcoming and warm feel to it. If you just want a cheap quick drink as you walk past then stop by but one drink here was enough before moving on.

Unlike the Marina branch, which has a bit more class than other Wetherspoons, The Bright Helm lives up to my previous expectations of a soulless, dirt cheap pub, loud with conversation and ripe with resident bar proppers. It’s always packed, huge and completely void of character, and annoyingly plays big football and rugby games on mute as it doesn’t have an entertainment license. If you really have to deny Brighton’s better pubs your presence and stick to characterless chains, head across the road to Yates, as at least you’ll catch the game in sound.

In contrary to the lovely marina-based The West Quay, there’s no mistaking that this place is a Wetherspoon. It has all the benefits of cheap drinks and cheap food… and there’s no atmosphere or buzz whatsoever. Even when it’s packed out on a Saturday night, it feels more like a cattle market than a vibrant city centre bar. The food is bearable, but not as nice as some other Wetherspoons. In fact, I was utterly disappointed in my cottage pie… and my roast dinner… and my cooked breakfast. Actually, why HAVE I been here so many times?! Anyway, what I’ve said already is nothing new where cheap, chain pubs are concerned. In fact, it’s exactly what you’d expect, so I’ll try and find some redeeming features… firstly the toilets are so enormous you could practically have a party in them and there’s a great spot to plonk yourself right in the window(in the bar, not in the toilets) so you can sit and watch(and bitch about) all the dishevelled and drunken hen parties that are sure to stumble past the window of a weekend evening. Personally though, I prefer much better scenery than West Street. And much nicer bars than The Bright Helm.

Had a spot of lunch here recently with some mates whilst visiting Brighton on a hen weekend. Service was pretty fast, food pretty tasty, and the menu was huge! There were a few loud guys in there but that’s to be expected on a sunny Saturday in a place that serves cheap alcohol, especially when there’s a festival on. Overall I’d say it was satisfactory.

This is a busy, busy bar cum restaurant, in a fantastic location — you’d be surprised at Wetherspoon’s, its come up in the world, and this branch in particular has had to do that to survive in such a competitive atmosphere. Fast service, they take their customers seriously in here.

Horrible. Horrible staff, horrible décor, horrible clientele and most of all, horrible drinks, served from lines tasting of line cleaner and served in dirty glasses. Only good if you’re starting or ending an evening here, otherwise spend 50p more and drink somewhere pleasant.

You sort of already know what you are getting when you go into a weatherspoons — cheap food and drink but with no music and no atmosphere. Predictably this branch of the chain is no different. Is situatated in a large building — so to be fair it is easy to get a table and you are served quickly. Alright for a quick drink — but wouldn’t be my choice to spend the whole night there.
