I’ve recently started getting in to wine, and in an attempt to impress my girlfriend’s father, I came here to try and increase my limited knowledge and purchase a more than adequate wine. You won’t find generic international brands of wine here, instead you’ll get specially selected, independent wines. Understandably you’ll pay a premium when coming here, but there is no question that Butlers represents value for money. If you’re interested in increasing your wine knowledge, Butlers offer wine tasting events as well as a friendly service to try and provide recommendations.

These guys sell my favourite red wine: Trimbach Pinot Noir Reserve which is, in my opinion the best red wine on the planet. They sell a huge range of bottles though and are in no way snobby at all. Quite the opposite as they really are genuinely interested in telling you about the joys of vino! They also run some of the best tasting events that I’ve ever attended. There’s quite a few coming up actually in late March and April including a Chianti day which is also a lovely drop!

This is a family run wine shop well worth seeking out on Queen’s Park Road in Hanover. It’s been in business 30 years so it must be doing something right. What it doesn’t do is your run of the mill supermarket plonk. That’s what supermarkets are for. Check out the Fakir Grenache 2006 from the Magpie Estate in Australia. There are only 60 crates of this fruity number in the UK and at £11.99 a bottle it will impress friends and make you more sexually attractive. OK I made that last bit up. Butlers stocks the gamut from sherries to champagne, the staff know their onions(or rather their grapes) and tastings can be organised at home or office.

Wines from over 20 countries and some more than 50 years old you would think that this place has to be a bit lad de da if thats how you spell? But, they have made it their mission to take this out of wine drinking so that the masses can try it. They want you to have fun and learn about wine which is great as many places can turn their noses up at people who are not sure what they are doing. Just drop by and see what they can offer as wine drinking often has a bad reputation and I reckon they will probably enthuse you. They offer all sorts of wines and bubbly for all sorts of occasions. Currently, with lots of special offers over the new year period, now would be a good time to stock up for those rainy days. Prices starting from £5 working their way upto £100 per bottle if this highlights the diversity.
