Stumbled upon this place late Saturday night and was amazed at their unique menu of bangers and mash. They have a beautiful selection of sausages, mash potatoes and gravy that would most likely satisfy everyone in a large dinner party. I ordered the lamb and mint sausage, garlic/herb mash potatoes, and caramelised onion gravy with a side of sweet potato fries(I was really hungry at 9pm). My partner ordered the venison sausages with the same mash and gravy. Two words: absolutely scrumptious. Their portions were just right — three sausages floating on the beautifully made mash surrounded by a pool of gravy. I would’ve taken pictures but the lighting in here wasn’t ideal and to be honest, my plate was empty after 15 minutes. Their bangers and mash combo costs £7.95 here which I feel is a good deal! They also serve other inexpensive small bites on a separate menu. Atmosphere was cozy and staff were friendly. If you happen to be in the Hanover area, don’t be shy to stop by at The Geese for something to eat or for a drink.

Another lovely little local tucked away in Hanover. Changed hands a few months back and the guys who run it make you feel very welcome, how it should be in a little local pub. I was here on Sunday and had a lovely roast Chicken dinner with all the trimmings, giant yorkshire and plenty of roast potatoes, it’s always been a beef of mine(forgive the pun) when pubs are tight on the veg, no such worries down here. In the week they do Bangers and mash, with a wide range of Sausages and types of mash and gravy and on Wednesday it’s two meals for a tenner. They’ve even been kind enough to have the pub at the bottom of Southover, so there is no need to deal with the hill !!

Firstly I would take too much notice of the picture for the Geese, it has long since been painted black. This is a very popular, Irish associated pub. Despite that Irish association, on select nights, The Geese offers a very good quality South East Asian food menu, notably made up of Malaysian offerings. On normal days however, The Geese is a relatively friendly pub with a roaring fire and comfortable seating. Here you will also find two TV’s that show the majority of big sporting events. If that isn’t for you, there are a host of well known board games lurking in the corner for anybody who fancies a bit of Monopoly.

The Geese is a Irish bar obligatorily specialising i Irish Whiskey ad Guinness. They show sport which is surprising considering the rustic vibe and the size of the venue. Popular with students as its in a residential area popular with them, but its not overly obvious and its not like you have ladies night or pound a pint. They have regular live music nights offering Jazz on a Thursday and Irish music on a Sunday. Its a great little local to have, but I’m not sure I’d walk out of town for it.

This pub is popular with young students — and they are welcome to it. Very much in need of a face lift — it lacks character and warmth.

The Geese is a perfectly nice neighbourhood pub, located half way up Southover St in Hanover. Because of its location it doesn’t draw clientele from far and wide and it is often quite quiet during the week. Having a few friends who live in the area, I have been here quite a bit and you do see the same faces every time, which is either lovely or a bit irritating, depending on your point of view! Although the staff are welcoming and attentive, I don’t feel the pub is as inviting or charming as the Greys, across the street. However, if you fancy a lively but local party on New Year’s Eve, I can recommend the Geese. I managed to squeeze in last year(it gets rammed and they have to operate a ‘one in, one out’ policy after a while) and the atmosphere was great. I mean arguably the atmosphere is great in most pubs on NYE, but I definitely had fun dancing the night away! A word of warning, if there’s a football match on, the big screen will be showing it and the place drains of all atmosphere.

A little bit out of the way I think the is the only Irish pub I’ve found in Brighton, the Geese is known as a Guinness and Irish Whiskey pub. As its in a residential area the clientele are largely local regulars, so it has quite a community vibe. The seasonal menu is quite swish as well as being organic and locally sourced where ever possible. They have regular Irish music nights on Sundays which attract Irish locals and Irish music fans from all over the city. They also have a popular jazz evening on Thursdays.

I’ve started going to this pub on a semi-regularly basis as quite a few of my friends live nearby, and it works out as quite a good meeting point. The service is always very friendly, the wi-fi is fast unlike some of the pubs I’ve visited, and the the selection of beers is pretty good. This is an irish pub, and occasionally the staff make this fact very apparent through playing some incredibly folky Irish music. That said, on occasion The Geese appears to adopt a little bit of a Jekyl and Hyde type split personality, holding regular jazz evenings, and serving Malaysian food on Fridays.

A gem of a pub. In quiet suburban location. Great independent feel to the pub, a nice change from chain pub predictability. Fantastic value Sunday roasts. Huge plates of delicious food and bargain desserts. Don’t tell everyone!

Unless this has changed in the past 12 months, this pub is a little tired and is in need of a bit of a facelift. That said, each time I’ve drank here, I’ve had no complaints. Busy it wasn’t, which worked for us. My wife and I frequented this place a lot when we were planning our wedding. The relaxed atmosphere, free wireless, and good value food(certainly less expensive than other Southover St establishments) made thisthe ideal place for us.

This pub looks like a classic style built pub from the outside. And the interior looks like its still the 1970’s. I don’t know if this is a bad thing or not! The regulars are friendly, well I haven’t been bitten by one yet! Theres Real ale & of coarse the over processed lager. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit here but its ok as a passing stopover.
