The Troll’s Pantry

I always have a really good experience at the Troll’s Pantry. These burgers are my favourite in Brighton. They’re definitely the ones you go for if you want the pure unabashed joy of getting stuck into something messy and amazing. I’ve brought friends from out of town too and they’ve all raved about it. Troll’s Pantry is also amazing for catering for everyone. I was in a group with a vegetarian, a vegan, some meat eaters and myself (who cannot eat gluten) and we were all beyond well catered for.
The flavours are always really original and they change a lot so you can never get bored. CANDIED MAPLE BACON IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS TO EVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE.

Not sure why it got a terrible review. Easily the best burger I’ve had at the Street Diner and in Brighton in general. I had the Smokey Mountain — I’d give it a 7.5÷10 on the burger scale. Great meaty burger, cheese, good bun-​to-​meat ratio. Lost points on it being extremely messy and because the crispy onions werent as crispy as I expected.

Based in the filthy garden of the Hobgolin, The Troll’s Pantry is a little BBQ where everything is left sitting in the open. Think big industrial sized tubs of Hellman’s, bags of unseasoned mince, soggy buns…
I was really looking forward to it but quite frankly the location puts you off from the get go. It’s rancid! Where has the £1mil they apparently spent doing up the Hobgob gone? The whole place looks like its never been cleaned. The garden is disgusting, ash and sticky beery tables with cocks drawn all over them… And they’re expecting you to want to eat with only a bit of burger paper to separate the food from the table? Nah.
The toilets are the kind you’d expect to pick up a venereal disease from… Taps don’t work, but funnily enough it smells better than the rest of the place!
I had a wildfire. It weren’t all that babeh! Soggy, funny tasting slaw with a kick of chilli. Definitely nothing to write home about and ABSOLUTELY not worth £8 for just the burger! The actual meat was quite juicy and would have been alright if the rest of it didn’t let it down. Unfortunately the only accompaniment was some ‘sautéed potatoes’ for an extra £4 these were the biggest joke of all. The potatoes hasn’t been boiled properly and were covered in black bits — at first I thought it was either pepper or they were burnt but it was actually where the pan had clearly never been cleaned. Wretched.
