Located on one of Bristol’s premier streets, this cracker is loved by locals and un-locals alike. if your looking for your run of the mill Bangladeshi serving a sloppy korma… this is the wrong place for you. The food here is superb, with a wide ranging menu to satisfy even the most discerning curry lover. The management are charming and friendly, and occasionally they throw in a few free beers if you get a take away. Much like the reviewer before me, i have spent a long time looking for a decent curry house in Bristol and it is safe to say i have found one.

If you’re coming to Bristol from somewhere like Leeds or East London, for example, you’ll notice that curries in Bristol don’t quite match up(Ha, if you’re coming from Leeds they’re certainly not as spicy). I can’t put my finger on why, maybe the portions are smaller, or the flavours aren’t quite the same because the ingredients are different. Who knows? But Bombay Spice is an exception to that rule. The food here is delicious, it’s not too greasy and it’s full of flavour. I actually prefer to sit in this restaurant and have a meal rather than get a takeaway. It’s obviously a popular choice(of the Cliftonites, that’s people who live in Clifton) for good reason. It’s a lovely, well decorated Indian restaurant with loads of space. Onion bhajis and Chicken Patia for me every time; the portions are a good size and if you rubbed the bhajis on some dry wall it wouldn’t go see-through, which is more than I can say for some places. In fact I know what I’m having for my dinner again now.

This use to be my favourite curry place but when me and my family moved we didn’t go there. We went back there and were very disapointed, the service had always been resonibly slow but this time it was a lot slower. The food was alright but didn’t have the same exotic curry flavour as it did. And what a suprise the price was more.

This is my husband’s favourite ‘curry house’. He was first introduced to it when he moved to Bristol 6 years ago. Although he continued experimenting with Bristol’s curry offerings, he found that he kept going back to Bombay Spice and will always take family and friends here above any other Indian Restaurant in the city. Although, I haven’t racked up as many visits to Bombay Spice as he is, I have had my fair share of their delicious curries and definitely agree. You can really distinguish and taste the different spices /flavour of each dish(it isn’t about masses of curry powder /making every dish extra HOT… and invariably the same). The décor isn’t going to win any awards, but it doesn’t need to, the food speaks for itself and you get a cosy booth to sit. There is a great selection of veggie, meat and seafood dishes, but we have to recommend the Chef’s(Bangladesh) specialities which are out of this world. The staff are really friendly and take away is also available.
