This is an interesting, though I can’t help thinking slightly pointless, gift shop that sits opposite the Star and Dove pub by Victoria Park. Quite what it’s doing there next to a rubbish grocery store I don’t know, but there you go. Okay, maybe it’s not pointless — that attitude is probably gender defined — though I can’t help thinking that it’s an outlet for women to buy gifts for other women which will never actually get used in a million years. It’s mainly home furnishing, such as pics and lampshades, and cookery implements and books(there’s even a Totterdown specific cookbook). It does all look very sweet and pretty, though, as does this admittedly charming little shop.

For all my lovely hippy friends birthdays, I head on down to Fig.1 for natural, ethical gifts and cards. Candles, jewellery, plants — I was practically floating around in amongst the bells, gemstones, fairtrade chocs and gardening books. There are useful things, frivilous things and downright beautiful things to buy(see the stained glass and bits and bobs of furniture). Local production, sustainability and zero pacakaging are some of their tenets. Everytime I leave the shop more at one with myself and the world — and with a new pressie for someone I know!
