After a long weekend of work, I enjoyed the Rib Eye and some beer(pretty sure it was the Dark Side). Be sure to get one of the Butter or Sauces, they were excellent and added so much to the steak!

A great Chop house in a nice quiet square near the new waterfront in central Bristol — good for a quick drink in a small group or even better for dinner or lunch. Run by the Bath Ales brewery they have all the fantastic bath ales on tap or in a bottle. My wife and I had dinner on a Friday just after New Year and it was still busy with a good atmosphere. The Staff were friendly and attentive but not over the top Elena our waitress was excellent. The food was of very good standard and for the type of Resteraunt(Gastro Pub) it was really good value — my wife’s main course(Blade of beef) was 13.95. Starters — Scallops with Bacon(me) and Goats cheese Salad(my wife) were good and I had a Sirloin Steak which was good and the chips were excellent.

We came here following a recommendation from a friend who lives in Bristol. We went for a late lunch after my husband’s interview so wanted to celebrate it being over and enjoy some time together. This place was perfect. Because it was about 3pm by the time we got there, it was pretty quiet(only two other customers) but we quite liked that and despite being worried they might not be serving food since it was between lunch and dinner(and Valentines day which they were clearly getting ready for that evening) we were warmly welcomed and told we could sit anywhere. The whole place smelled like leather which I suppose might be off putting for some but I loved it. It was nice and bright with leather seating(hence the smell) and smart décor. We were brought a lunch menu as well as the a la carte and drinks. I decided to have a cocktail since we were officially on holiday now the interview was over ;) The cucumber collins(£6.50) was delicious! We also shared a 500ml carafe of pinot noir(£12) which was lovely. We ordered bread & olives(£3.50) to start which were very nice, I liked the addition of thyme to the butter. For our mains, Nik chose the burger which was tasty but a bit dry and could have had a bit more seasoning. The chips were fantastic! I opted for the duck leg confit with dauphinoise(£11.95) which was definitely the best choice — SO delicious and melt in the mouth duck with crispy skin. The jus was very tasty too and great for dipping Nik’s chips! ;) I was surprised that Nik’s burger cost more than my duck which was a decent size and mine definitely seemed better quality. £12.95 for a burger is pretty pricey too! When mine came I decided I needed some veg with it so ordered the winter greens which came quickly and smothered in butter. A bit too much really as I actually love kale & savoy cabbage(which is what came) and it was literally dripping in butter which wasn’t needed and so not quite as healthy as expected but I enjoyed it all the same. Although, again it was quite expensive at £3.50 for a small bowl of cabbage. Considering how quiet the restaurant was(a few more customers had come in for drinks by the time we finished but no other diners), we had to sit with our empty plates for a VERY long time as the waitress was busy lighting candles and setting tables for dinner. She did seem to be the only member of staff at this point but we were ignored for a bit too long. Service was friendly throughout though and we soon got the bill and were thanked as we left. The toilets were clean and again, nicely decorated with nice touches like the lovely smelling White Company soap & hand lotion. We’d probably go back for another visit next time we’re in Bristol.

When visiting a new city you don’t always know where to go. And apparently not making a reservation a Saturday night in Bristol wasn’t the best idea! After walking around for 20 – 30 mins and getting a few rejections we found Graze, which from the outside looks way to modern for my taste. But the closer we got the better we liked it(it has a statuette of a bull on top of the door — love it!!!) Anyways we got charcuterie as a starter with Aperol Spritz, which was delicious — really good meat! And nicely served! As a main cause we got a chicken roast and lamb chops, and a bottle of wine, they had a great wine card by the way! We both wanted to finish — but that wasn’t possible — cause we also need room for a little dessert! It was a good evening! The service was really good, We loved the food, and the interior was very non British!(Win!) ;) I would have loved to try a Sunday roast at Graze! Next time for sure!

I suppose I’ve been in America too long but I now find eating steak and burgers in my home country a bit of a let down. I visited with a group of 6 colleagues and was met with the waitress saying that there was a 45 minute wait for food. I ordered the burger which arrived on a wooden board and wrapped in special Graze paper — a nice touch. The burger bap/roll/bread was too dense and in my opinion unsuitable for use with a burger. The meat patty was overcooked and again way too dense, fortunately it did appear to have been made in the kitchen rather than purchased. The fries were a little undercooked. Mediocre and expensive at £13.95($ 21+/-) The ironic part is that I visited this place a year or so ago and asked why there wasn’t a burger on the menu. Apparently the chef thought that a «high class» place like Graze shouldn’t have a burger on the menu. My recollection of that visit was a good one but I did eat fish rather than steak. My colleagues ate steak — I’m not sure if 10oz in the UK is the same as 10oz in the USA but the steaks looked small. One colleague’s steak didn’t turn at all and the manager informed us that there had«been a mistake» — another 20 minutes later a medium rare steak turned up which looked rare. Surely it doesn’t take 20 minutes to cook a medium rare steak? It’s a nice place for after work drinks especially in the nice weather as they have an outdoor bit with tables. I won’t be in a rush to return, another year should do it.

Great steak and great beer(Bath Ales)! The green peppercorn & brandy sauce is a perfect add on for only one pound more. Gem and steak is the perfect lunch or dinner. I had rib eye that was cooked to utter perfection. I asked for a side of olives and they gave me a small side with no problem. More expensive than most nearby places to eat, but worth every pound. Free wifi was available with registration.

Well managed to have a meal here and it was fantastic — I had one of their steaks and they weren’t shy with the slab of meat on my plate — perfectly cooked! The staff were really friendly and helpful, suggesting several side plates and starters to make sure we were well and truly stuffed by the end of the meal. All reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended.
