Herbert’s bread is amazing. My particular favourite is a french stick stuffed with chips. Don’t indulge too much though! Whilst living in neighbouring St. Werberghs a little bakery used to stock a few loaves and you would have to practically run before they were all sold out.

What can I say… It’s the best bakery in Bristol. Excellent baguettes and croissant with cherry. Strongly recommended.

If you live in Clifton, Redland, or other haunts of the haut monde, you may well find yourself in a sandwich shop purchasing a ridiculously overpriced sandwich with bread apparently baked at «Herberts», and wonder what is so special about that. Upon chowing down on the said sarnie, however, you will wonder where the devil this genial little bakery is, for anywhere that fills your hungry chops so delectably must be worth a visit, and is well worth the extravagance of price. The better thing to do, however, is take your best tweeds to St Pauls(theyre only telling you Montpelier to make you feel safer), turn off Ashley Road on to York Road, and you will see a mischievously graffitied building upon which is daubed the nomenclature of this fantastic establishment. Inside you will see, for a third of the price, the finest collection of baked goodies in all of Bristol. Pick some up. Pay for them. Take them home. Eat them. Feel proud that you have been to «the dangerous part of town». Save yourself from the ridiculous expense of exported Herberts bread, forever!

Herberts is well deserving of its city wide reputation for fine food. They do an excellent selection of fresh bread, baked on the premises, cakes, pies and pasties. The bread menu includes organic loaves, rye bread, wholemeal, ciabatta, sourdough, sundried tomato bread and Herberts renowned olive bread. And there’s croissants, pan au chocolate, bagels, filled paninis, pizzas, pies and that’s before I’ve even started on the cakes! Herberts are also baking their own mince pies for the season. Probably the best bakery in Bristol.
