So, after doing a little bit of pre meal review research, I have to say I was a little skeptical. The reviews stated the food was good but the service poor. On the contrary, our experience didn’t mirror these views. The food was definitely tasty and the service was fine. Not an amazing michelin starred silver service kind of affair but perfectly nice service from pleasant staff. The only issue was around our voucher deal, note to self must do less voucher meals. Apparently, the deal we had could only be accepted in paper form, did we have a paper copy of the voucher, no, as I have the app. However the app neglects to tell you that you can use the app. Big error on the voucher companies part! However the resolution was to pay for dinner and pop in with the voucher for full refund in the week. All sorted, a minor scene averted and the staff were really helpful. The really tasty food easily resolved what could have turned a lovely evening sour. Will go again!

I have just spent a very pleasant evening at Juniper restaurant with a friend. There is a relaxed and cosy atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming, although we had to wait quite a while to be offered a drink, also the side dishes arrived substantially later than the bulk of our main course, as the restaurant was full and they were quite busy trying to cope with all the customers there. However the fact that local people had flocked to this restaurant and that they were busy speaks volumes; Juniper offers excellent quality food, with some interesting flavour combinations. I had seared King scallops with liquorice carrot cream and black pudding, duck with dauphinoise potatoes and a honey and wine jus and orange jelly, and then a sticky toffee pudding with rum and raisin ice cream, all of which were beautifully presented and tasted very good indeed. I have uploaded some pictures of the food. This is not a cheap restaurant, however we had made the most of an email special offer which let us try their three course menu out for a very reasonable price. We were advised that they also do occasional deals on Groupon which is worth looking out for if you are watching the pennies. As a ballpark figure, we spent £65 for two people to have a three course meal and a bottle of wine to share, and this figure included the service charge. I thought this represented really good value given the high standard of the meal and I hope to visit again before too long. Highly recommended.

I ate here with a voucher from the daily deal site, Dealcloud. I think it’s only fair to state that up front. I would think that the point of websites like Groupon, Living Social and Dealcloud is that they encourage people to try new places, and that local businesses get a chance to reach new customers. Therefore you’d think that they’d be out to impress. This is the third time I’ve eaten in a restaurant in Bristol under these conditions. The first time was at Rockfish on Whiteladies, which was excellent. The second time was at Bordeux Quay, which was terrible(the food varied between overly salty to bland, and I was sick the following day) My meal at Juniper was far from terrible, but it was only worth the money paid. My starter of crab trio was lovely, although missed some sort of bread, and presented(a lovely) tartare sauce as a fully fledged part of the meal, rather than a side. If a condiment is served as an equal sized portion to the rest of the dish you have to question the balance of the plate in front of you. My main meal was a competent although unexciting piece of lamb rump. A better gravy is all that this dish needed to be lovely, but instead I had what tasted like something out of a packet. Slightly oversold as lamb and tarragon jus(there was no flavour of tarragon for instance). Still, a decent pub roast sort of dish. Pudding was a dull chocolate trio. My company had a lovely tasting wild(button!) mushroosm on brioche starter, a nice piece of Sea Bass with a tomato compote(suspiciously like good quality tinned tomato), and a ‘mature’ cheese plate. All in all, probably worth the £50ish including wine spent including voucher, but at full price I would have been seriously disappointed. On a plus, the champagne cocktails included in our deal were lovely. And I normally dislike champagne and cocktails.

Great food, not cheap but quality. Service seemed to suffer once it got busy on sat night and limited beers but least bath ales. Well worth a visit

Juniper is a lovely and authentic little restaurant located at the top of St Michael’s Hill — a short walk away from the bustling Whiteladies Road and literally a stone’s throw away from my house. This restaurant is a little gem and an absolute find, in my opinion it really is one of the nicer and more special places to go for an evening’s meal. The place itself is very small and cute, which completely adds to the atmosphere as you feel you are getting a more personal and unique service from the staff who are always lovely and looking after you. From the outside it looks curiously attractive, and this is reflected throughout the venue — the interior is beautifully decorated and all the tables are well presented with a classy touch — there are lots of tables for two in this restaurant, but if you are with a larger group they are more than happy to rearrange the seating so make sure you call in advance if this is the case. Juniper is definitely a higher end restaurant, and it is somewhere you’d probably only go for special occasions as it is quite pricy — however it is definitely worth a visit as you will have an evening to remember and the food is perfectly cooked and tastes delicious. On the occasion that I came here I had the roasted chicken — which was presented beautifully and was cooked to perfection — but everything on their menu looked great. The one thing I would say though is that it’s perhaps not brilliant if you’re a vegetarian as their menu isn’t very extensive so they tend to have just one option — perhaps call in advance to check you like what they have to offer. In terms of drinks Juniper do have quite an extensive wine list too — they really do have everything to make your evening as special as possible. I would definitely recommend this place for special occasion meals, and in particular for romantic meals or dates as it has the perfect atmosphere for this. Juniper gets five stars in my books!

Seldom have I seen quite so colour-coordinated a restaurant. There’s no missing Juniper despite its tucked away Kingsdown location, the purple façade practically screams at passersby. It might be garish on the outside, but inside is a peaceful refuge of civilised fine dining. Although not excessively formal, Juniper is still very much a special occasion venue and there’s a quiet, hushed atmosphere about the place. The interior is fine, although clearly not the main attraction. That’s reserved for the food, which comes in small ‘nouvelle cuisine’ portions with the usual hefty price tag that grows as the food shrinks. Nevertheless, on my visit, the food was exquisite. Cornish crab to start, a beautiful duck for mains and a passion fruit crème brûlée to finish — all imaginative recipes, elegantly presented and cooked to perfection. Definitely not the kind of establishment you’ll be frequenting with a loud and lairy group of friends on a regular basis, Juniper is nevertheless a feast for the senses in a serene atmosphere. Although it’s expensive, do keep an eye open for Juniper’s regular three meals for £20.95 promotions which it does(at the time of writing there’s one in Folio, I’ve seen it Venue as well and I believe if you sign up for the mailing list there’s one as well).

This great little restaurant has been a family favourite for some time. When my elder brothers lived in Bristol it was frequented for Birthdays etc. and the legacy carries on with my presence. There is something very cosy about the small restaurant, probably a result of its size. The food is good even if it is a little expensive. I strongly recommend their crème brûlée for pudding, if you like crème brûlée that is. Go and see what you think!

Juniper is a cute little French/British restaurant tucked away at the top of Cotham Road. The menu looked great and the food was great quality, i just wish i could have appreciated it more. I don’t like fish or overly-funky dishes, so there wasn’t much for my fussy self to eat. The only down side is that Juniper is awkwardly-situated on the corner of two busy roads which makes parking fairly difficult. If you live near the area then a good walk to and from the restaurant will do you the world of good, because the food is very filling and it will be nice to walk it off.

I was recommended Juniper by several of my friends as a really romantic evening meal for my partner’s birthday. The restaurant is not hard to find as it is painted purple, so as long as you can manage to make your way to the correct road, you won’t miss it. There is however no private parking, and the pavement is usually full with parked cars, so bare this in mind if you are considering driving. The food and the service was really good. Once the waiter realised it was my partners birthday we were given a really nice little table nestled in the corner which gave us some privacy and a complimentary brioche! I would say that the restaurant is a little on the small side. If you are a group of any more than 2 people I would avoid this restaurant as I doubt they would be able to accommodate you. I also saw a couple walk in without a reservation and were shown away, therefore ringing up to reserve a meal is essential. Price wise, Juniper is expensive. The cheapest main dish is £15 and there is only one option for vegetarians. Starters are £8−9 and desserts are £6−7. However, as said earlier, the food was wonderful. It has been tricky to rate this restaurant because the quality of the food is really good, however I don’t think I would return as it is a bit on the expensive side.

Sitting up in Kingsdown, this long established eatery is highly rated and somewhere I’ve been meaning to go for quite some time. I finally went a few weeks back due to having a voucher and wasn’t overwhelmed by the experience. It’s very popular and the sort of place that’s always busy, though they were very good at accommodating us at the last minute over the phone. When we arrived, they were clearly full, though the waiter remained in good cheer and was helpful. The place is pretty small and this creates a decent, bustling atmosphere. The food itself was good, the starters are mainly fish and we opted for salmon, which was nice if a bit titchy. The mains are classic British, with either fish or various meats all served with vegetables. This was delicious, though they begin at £15 and even with our voucher it was a bit pricey for me to seriously consider going again.

Nestled away on Cotham Road, this well presented place(you’ll be able to find it by the purple painted façade) doesn’t have any particular twist to it. Its just contemporary dishes in a smart but fairly informal setting. The menu’s fairly well sized for somewhere as small as this, with four meat options as well as a fish and vegetarian dish. The staff are friendly but kept busy, this place is popular and you’ll have to book to get in on a weekend. It’s not he cheapest of places, with mains around seven pounds. Worth it for a special occasion though. Juniper suits its location, on a quiet Cotham road well, serving up pricey food with neatness and not too much formality.

Quaint setting, friendly but noticably busy staff and good food which is surprisingly filling. Sometimes odd flavours are mixed — like two seafood and bread sauce on one plate — but other brave decisions work. You always need to book at this place on a weekend as it has a popularity which has been spread mostly through word of mouth recommendations. For me it has one big downside and that’s the price. A meal for two with wine will set you back around £75-£80. And for that price, there are nicer places to go in Bristol.

This place means well, does very good food at times, and is a welcome addition to a very bleak part of town on the culinary front. However you can’t help but feel that they lack that extra bit of nous to run a top quality British restaurant(of which Bristol has a few) properly, particularly at the very high prices that they charge. Too often service & food seemed amateurish. I would recommend trying it though as experience can only make this place a winner in time!

Fantastic! Been meaning to call in here for years. Superb food and a charming, intimate atmosphere. This is how small independent restaurants should be– it’s no wonder they’ve been there for over 8 years now. Highly recommended!
