Lime Tree Gallery

The Lime Tree Gallery hosts regular, changing exhibitions throughout the year — and also sells a range of art works by contemporary local and national artists.
The current exhibition, The Principality, showcases contemporary Welsh painting — including landscapes, figurative art and still lifes. Since exhibitions such as these are free, it would be a shame not to have a look if you’re passing — and the owner seems quite at ease with people simply browsing rather than buying (presumably hoping you may return sometime when you’re looking to buy some art).
The permanent shop stocks a changing collection of contemporary individual glass pieces made by artists in Britain and the Baltic States, and a range of paintings, many by contemporary Scottish artists. Some are more traditional, while others are abstract — so there’s a good choice to suit different tastes — although (as you’d expect) nothing for those on a budget.

I ran past the gallery every few days last year and as i went past i always thought that the gallery was so peaceful and serene, the pictures were much better than what i would expect from a small local Gallery.
The gallery lured me in, and i spent a very pleasant ten minutes having a wonder around, taking the pictures in. That is all i could do as a quick look at any of the price tags stamped out any ideas i might have had about buying one.

With the View art gallery just a short trip down the road it’s great to see Hotwells is staking a great claim to get all the artists in Bristol to pay attention to what Hotwells can offer them.
The Lime Tree Gallery is opposite the riverside and pulls in many people going for a riverside walk. With art from local artists as well as national there is an impressive sellection of paintings and contemporary works from sculptures made from rubbish picked up on a bristol walk to a painting depicting what could be described as the waters influence on the city of Bristol.
Worth a look, might be to pricy but doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate what is on offer.

What have Long Melford in Suffolk and Bristol have in common? Not much, except the Lime Tree Gallery. The Bristol branch can be found in Hotwells, near the water, and exhibits a variety of pieces but have a particular love for contemporary Scottish artists.
Until 17^th January (which is much past Twelfth Night), the Bristol gallery is hosting a special Christmas exhibition, but don’t hesitate to pop in anytime, as the beautiful work on display will always impress.

Gallery positioned overlooking the harbour, almost opposite the Grain Barge. The owner is friendly and happy to talk about the work and let you look round. They select work from artists nationwide to a theme that changes about eight times a year (so every six weeks-​ish). Work is a mix of traditional and more contemporary pieces and when I last went had some beautifully bleak oil landscapes.
