Mackies Bar

I can’t really make up my mind about this place, it just seems like somethings not quite right. The owners have put the effort in to try and transform it into a trendy hotspot but it seems that things haven’t quite worked out as well as intended, because on the occasions I have popped in here it is fairly lifeless and quiet! Aside from this though, the bar does actually look quite modern on the inside, with comfortable leather seating and a good bar. There is also an area that turns into a kind of dance floor late at night, which would be good fun if there were enough people to dance…
Mackies has a pool table at the back aswell, so if you like a game of pool then it might be worth popping down with a couple of friends if you live near by as you’ll probably have more chance of securing the table than in a busy pub. Another good thing about this place is that they have outdoor seating, and on a summers evening it would be a nice place to sit in the sun with a drink, but I would probably only stick to the one and then move onto somewhere else as there just isn’t that much buzz about the place.

Mackies is a bit of a strange bar. Inside it looks as if it has been half decorated then just left alone for a good couple of years, but yet from the outside it looks quite sleek and modern.
I went in here once on a long bar crawl from the Arches into town but I don’t think I would return. The music was ok I guess. It was a bit of a mixture of genres to be honest but I guess if you were only popping in for one drink then that doesn’t really matter. Prices were high, especially considering most of their custom is probably students. There is also your standard Pool table which is usually taken up by a couple of old men for most of the night.
Yeh, I probably wouldn’t go back, but it is an alright place to stop en-​route to town.

This place is all right for a late night drink, either before a club or as a night cap before crawling home, seeing as it opens fairly late, especially at the weekends. It’s nothing special, mind you. The beer and cider can be hit or miss — sometimes it really flat and lifeless, to be honest. They play cheesy music in the main area that contains a sticky dancefloor of sorts, which is where most people hang out. Venture further inside, though, and there’s a nice little pool table and an outside area right out the back. This is where I usually hang out if I happen to find myself at this place, as it has cover from the rain, heaters to combat the cold and a very chilled vibe — in fact, you scarcely realise you’re out on the lash as the music is dulled to a low hum out here and the view is of the backs of people’s houses. Yes, it’s just like round your mate’s house, where he insists that smoke outside because the missus doesn’t like the smell.

The most relaxed n chilled out bar in Stokes Croft, with a very wide range of Music Events to suit everyones taste in music, This is a place not to be missed off your pathway.
