The post office is a cracking pub in the heart of fishponds high street no frills pub with resonably priced good honest pub grub! Friendly staff pool table. Lots of tellys with sport on and a nice smoking area! We had the smothers steak out was banging! And you get a couple of fp red necks to chuckle with!

The Old Post Office is a bar/pub/restaurant, and it kind of reminds me of a wetherspoons in terms of the décor and what it has to offer. It’s a relaxing and casual place where you can grab lunch or a few drinks with friends, and it’s very spacey with a good amount of seating so its great for larger groups of if you want to guarantee somewhere to sit. Like many pubs they have a large flat screen TV for sports, and when there are big matches it gets crazy busy and buzzing! I was actually really impressed with the food here; as the place reminded me of wetherspoons I expected a fairly average standard of food, but I was pleasantly surprised and they have a great variety of meals on their menu — I had a burger and chips, but it tasted delicious and was a very generous portion. In the summer months this pub has a particularly good atmosphere when it’s warm enough to sit in the beer garden, also as it is just around the corner from one of the UWE campuses it tends to attract a very studenty crowd. Overall, I am a fan of this place and it’s somewhere you can feel comfortable and relaxed and chill out with a few friends.

Not the best place to visit in Fishponds. The title and size does suggest and give off the feel that it will be much better than it actually is. Definatley not a place to come for some food, i’d sooner grab myself something from a fast food place. But is ok to come for a nice little drink. If you’ve got a gang of you there is alot of space inside to sit and relax, and the staff are very friendly. Unfortunatley the character just doesn’t seem to be there, which is a shame.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. No, I haven’t turned into a Dalek, but I really want to get the message across in the most simple way possible. The Old Post Office: –isn’t a cute retro hangout as the name suggests –there’s nothing ‘old’ about it. It’s all horribly new and characterless –it has little style and even less substance –the drinks are cheap, but that entices a cheap-drinking crowd, and man, are they rowdy(and a wee bit scary). My ‘hilarious’ anecdote about this place involves a work lunch with 6 colleagues, all who ordered food from their rather greasy, unappealing menus all at the same time. We all got our food twenty or so minutes apart, so by the time one person had finished eating, someone else was just starting. The 4 cheese baguette was basically just bread with four shreds of cheddar on it. When we complained, they were utterly rude and wouldn’t put more cheese on top. The tuna melt wasn’t very melted and the fish tasted very metallic. This probably isn’t the standard of food all the time, but it was a traumatic experience I wouldn’t like others to have to go through.

This is part of the Smith & Jones chain of pubs, which are starting to spring up around the country. This is one is a pretty big building with not much character to it once inside. There is nothing wrong with the place as such, the price is reasonable, the pub grub is okay, but there just isn’t much to draw you back if you’re after something more than a cheap pint. I’d say the pub was geared up for a younger crowd so anybody aged 30+ would be better off nipping to the ‘spoons along the road. It does show sports on plenty of screens if that is what you’re after.

this is my personal favorite place to go in the fishponds area. In my oppinion it is the most friendly of the night spots in the area. With it’s modern style and big screen tvs, which show all the major sporting events it is a nice place to enjoy an evening. Although it’s probably not the first choice for many when looking for a big night out it is enjoyable and can be the calm beginning to what may be a crazy night.
