This place is definitely up there with my favourite curry houses! We have had a few takeaways from here recently and they have all been delicious. I always go for a chicken korma and my partner has something different each time. Last night he went for a chicken tikka rezala which he said is now one of his favourite curries. The last time we ate from here we found that one rice wasn’t enough for both of us so this time we ordered two. All our food was lovely, definitely no complaints. The décor is modern with a nice traditional feel and the staff are all really friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area or fancy a change from your usual Indian restaurant.

This place earns a strong 4 stars from me. After craving an indian I decided to try Tamarind out. It did not disappoint. Situated in Downend on the high street. Plenty of parking spaces along the way. The restaurant itself is really nice, plenty of tables. I would always book on Friday/weekends. The staff are really friendly which is always good to see. I had Karahi chicken tikka, garlic nan, poppadoms and a plain rice, which was all really nice. Great tastes and flavours throughout. I Highly recommend the Karahi chicken tikka. It’s on the chefs specialities. My only problem was I found the rice dish very small, I can usually share a rice and find that enough, but with the size of this one that was not achievable, maybe I should stop being tight and buy 2 next time lol ! A great indian with some really nice food. I will be visiting again when I get the chance. I recommend giving the tamarind a go. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

Certainly the best formal Indian Restaurant I know. Always professional but welcoming with excellent food and very fair prices. If you like Indian lamb recipies, this is the place for you.

Whether a sit down meal or a take away this place excels. Great choice, fast, attentive service. Never been disappointed. Always looking for an excuse to go again and again! Inspite of a rival restaurant(nearly) next door and a take away on the otherside, this place is always busy.

I want to start by saying just how much I love this restaurant, I have been here on two occasssions now as after my first visit I just couldn’t wait to come back and try something else on their menu! Tamarind is a fine Indian cuisine restaurant, and is much more exquisite than your standard Indian. They offer a really attractive variety of interesting dishes and specials, as well as your usual curries like Korma, Tikka, Vindaloo etc… this really appeals to me, but you will find that it is very difficult making a final decision on what you want to eat as everything sounds so good. The smells from the kitchen are amazing as you’re sitting there, so get popadums to start for something to pick at whilst your waiting. The interior of the restaurant is lovely, with white wooden terrace type designs giving the place a quaint feel. There is a good amount of seating, but in my experience it was very busy on a Friday night so perhaps book ahead if you want to guarantee a table. Price wise this place is also great as their meals are very reasonable, on par with most other Indian’s in the area. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it’s a bit more classy than most Indians so it would be great for a special occasion meal as well as general family meals or evenings out with friends. If you are a fan of Indian food like me you will love Tamarind.

Has all the usual Indian dishes plus the chefs specials, the Honey Chicken was fantastic. The portions are hugh, the service was a bit over-attentive and the quality was superb.

When the Tamarind first opened, I was really impressed. At last Downend had a decent restaurant where you could sit in and enjoy a really great Indian meal with a great selection of food and alternatives for those who don’t like Indian dishes. However, I think that this is another restaurant in this area that is resting on its laurels. Although the staff are generally friendly, service can be very slow even when there aren’t many customers and the food is overpriced. I have also had a couple of bad meals there recently with what I can only describe as ‘dry’ chicken — not the tender chicken that you should get in an Indian dish. We also went one evening when it was reasonably busy and the plates, dishes and drinks were being whisked away from in front of us before they were finished. I would still recommend a visit as there is plenty to choose from on the menu and most of the time, the food is good if not brilliant. And the atmosphere is always excellent.

This is a traditional Indian Restaurant. The waiters are really nice and inviting. Very polite and always thinking of the customers. Most Importantly the food is absolutely delicious. Me and my family have never had a problem from there and we go there at least once every couple of months. It is quite expensive, but then again what indian cuisine isn’t. Definatley a place i would recommend to go.
