The Asssembly in Bedminster is a good place for a local drink in relatively civilised surroundings. With a large and reasonably priced bar, it’s a good place to ‘assemble’ before a night’s drinking in town. There are quite a few comfy sofas to slouch in, and a couple of booths if you are in a smaller group. The food here is not too shabby for pub dinners, and they have a range of British Style cuisine on offer. They also have a beer and burger style meal for £5.99(which I had and it filled me up well), as well as two meals for six or seven pounds, so it’s pretty cheap overall. They show most of the sports matches if you’re looking for somewhere with a big screen and have free wifi too.

Right on the main drag of Bedminster’s shopping street of East Street, this large pub restaurant is akin to the likes of Wetherspoons, Yates’ and Lloyds. There’s a good selection of cheapish drinks and some good quality cheap pub grub on offer, ideal for a cheap lunch with a group of mates or grabbing some cheap eats before heading out on the town. It’s not the coolest pub south of the river, but it’s a good starting point. Come in the day to escape the pound shops, pawn shops and slot machines on the less than sophisticated East Street.

Due to the Windmill Hill City Farm café being expectedly closed yesterday, I found myself in the unfortunate position of walking around Bedminster with a group of people trying to find somewhere half decent for a Sunday morning fry up/hangover cure. With the only alternative being some really shonky looking cafes, we ended up here, in what can only be described as a(slightly) upmarket Wetherspoon’s. It’s similar in terms of size(huge) and menu/prices(varied/cheap), though the drinks are more expensive and they have TV screens(which were showing the footie on Sky Sports). My chicken wrap with chips and salad was a bargain at £3.25, while the £6 all day breakfasts also went down well. I wouldn’t make a point of going back, but considering the horrendous position we’d found ourselves, this was certainly the best of a bad bunch.
