Without a doubt will recommend this punt company. Don't use the overpriced companies. This small company behind Trinity College is friendly, knowledgeable, laid back and most of all reasonably priced. Hope to go back again. Thank you for a marvelous ending to our visit to Cambridge.

Punting is the best way to see Cambridge, and GHL punts is the best way to do it, without question. Avoid the relentless pressure from the commercialized punt businesses shouting at you on the main street and follow the white chalk writing directing you to the punt landing by Trinity College, and a better punting experience.
Full disclosure, I’ve never actually used a different punt company, so I can’t tell judge the value of Scudamore’s or any of the other large punting companies. However, what I can tell you is if you’re looking for a personal experience without the need to pre-​book, these are your guys.
We’ve gone with GHL on three occasions; twice as a guided tour and once giving it a go ourselves. I do not recommend doing it yourself, especially on a summer day, and I’ll just leave it at that since it’s not an experience I like to think about or talk about (though that’s no fault of GHL, I just suck at it). Both guided tours we’ve taken lasted about an hour and offer facts about the various colleges. On our most recent tour, the guide had some quite funny and snarky comments, which was quite entertaining. For me, this highlights two great qualities: their ability to instantly judge and audience and calibrate the experience, and the non-​scripted nature of the tours.
Furthermore, all of their punt boats are the more traditional smaller boats designed for up to 6 people and according to our last guide they’re the only company who still does it that way. It pretty much guarantees you won’t be crammed in a boat with a dozen or more people you don’t know, and probably pay more for it. Instead, spend your experience with GHL.

June 2010, still only £12 per hour and flexible, scudamores are £18 and strict. Very trusting and helpful. Well recommended.

Far better than Scudamores, more trusting and they don’t look at you as if you are going to go joyriding in the damn thing. It has a good laid back feel and their rates are normally a good pound or two cheaper than Scudamores and you don’t have to queue to be loaded into a punt. They also never seem to charge as much as you thought or round down if you are just 5 minutes over your allotted time. When was the last time that happened anywhere. They are well located midway along the river Cam so you can either head left past King’s college towards the busy end of the water by Scudamores or turn right and into usually a quieter section and as far as the weir you will come upon. It’s quite nice to go one way and then the other, first right to practice your skills and then left to try them out against the hoards punters coming the other way most of whom have only perfected the zig-​zag technique. Well worth using this place if you visit, you won’t be disappointed.
