I was visiting Canterbury Cathedral with my girlfriend from Los Angeles and I had promised her the experience of a Full English Breakfast so we went to this pub. The food was rather good. The problem is, however, when I asked the Barman who was barely tall enough to reach the bar, looked young enough to be fresh out of school and who was serving customers completely out of sequence regardless of how long they had been waiting to get served for a couple of glasses of tap water with a slice of lemon in one for us to take with some medication he asked if we wanted any other FREESTUFF? I can see his sense of humor yet I find it rather cheap and tasteless. This maybe a thriving business yet this type of service leaves a rather bad memory for visitors to such a Beautiful city. The Ingoldsby is a Wetherspoon pub, meaning that you know pretty much exactly what you’re getting when you go. Good food at reasonable prices without much of a fuss. I prefer the Westgate Inn, though(Canterbury’s other Wetherspoon) because of the atmosphere. Too often the Ingoldsby resembles a rowdy casino more than a restaurant or quaint pub. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing drink, I’d look elsewhere. It can also be a pain trying to get a table for actual dining purposes. The staff’s good, though. The food is reliable, the wait for your meal is brief and the location’s convenient. Bottom line: good if you’re already there, but if you want something a little calmer, try Westgate.

A pretty good pub! Probably the best I visited during my trip to England. The fish and chips were quite good, although a teensy bit on the dry side. I mentioned in a previous review that I was disgusted by mushy peas that I tried at another pub. I actually kind of liked the mushy peas that I got here. My wife really liked her crispy chicken«burger». The beer selection is plentiful, and inexpensive(by English standards) — as is the rest of their menu. Apparently this is part of a large chain called Wetherspoon, and apparently all of their pubs are more or less the same. Still, I liked it, and it’s very conveniently located near the town center and Canterbury Cathedral.

One of two wetherspoon’s pucs in canterbury this one is closer to the Christchurch uni campus. A place that alwyas seems packed but you an usually find a table. Its typical spoon’s food, quite good and well priced so worth a visit if on a budget and want a better meal than say mcdonalds. I prefer this one but my partner is a UKC girl so we eat in the other one more often!

I agree with Beaker, the few times I have been in this pub it has been packed out and understaffed, not the best combination to get in a pub. The drinks are cheap as any other ‘spoons pub but if you have to wait 20 mins to get served I’d rather pay and extra 30p a pint.

Funny how we all thought this place was cool when it opened and we’d never seen the likes of a Wetherspoons in our neck of the woods before. This is a really big pub which gets completely packed out at weekends with people, who do not look old enough to drink, on the way to one of the clubs. It is so big and gets so packed, that even without background music, it can be difficult to make conversation. Like most Wetherspoons they can do a cracking pint of real ale and their beer festivals are good. However, the service is painfully slow at times and they never seem to have enough staff on
