Balti Master has saved me from more hangovers than I’d care to mention. After many a gig and night out in town somebody inspired has uttered the words, ‘Balti Master?’ It seems to be open much later than anywhere else and really saves on arguments for big parties as they have a bit of everything. I’m not particularly adventurous at that time of night, so I tend to go for chips, but whoever I’m with seem to come out with a real mixture — pizzas, deep fried things with chips and kebabs are all on offer so something to please everyone. And we keep going back so it must be good! The only downside is that it is really out of the way for town and not really near anything. Lucky for me a fair few of our party don’t drink so always drive and it provides a sedate and trusted alternative to the carnage of Caroline Street.

A reasonably decent local takeaway Balti Master sells more than curry. Their menu includes 25 varieties of Pizza(usually on BOGOF promotion) which start at £5.99 for a 10′ Margherita. Personally, I like the Vegetarian Hot which is topped with mushrooms, onions, peppers and sweetcorn and has a bit of a kick. They also do Garlic Bread Pizza for a couple of quid, for those budget treat yourself nights in. Burgers: Cheese/Donner/Veggie are served with salad & a choice of sauce Kebabs: Chicken/Donner/Chicken Tikka/Mixed all served with pitta bread or naan, salad & a choice of sauce. Large kebabs come with free can of drink. Things with chips: Fish & Chips/Fishcake/Battered Sausage/Clarks Pies etc. A chip butty is just £1.40. Fried chicken and chicken nuggets Curry: Not just Balti but also Madras, Vindaloo, Biryani, Korma, Bhuna, Jalfrezi and more. All are only £3.99 or £4.99. Bargain. Icecream Add to this friendly staff and late opening and it scores an A-OK. Good for locals and students alike. They are on too, for those who want to order online and get food delivered.

Fast cheap and easy! Yes Balti Master is all three. Don’t be fooled by the name they have a good range of dishes on their menu including Indian dishes, pizzas, fish and chips, kebabs, burgers, salads, ice cream. Pretty much anything you would want from a local takeaway. The staff are always really friendly and they don’t close until quite late in the evenings so quite often after a night out they are still open. Our personal favourite is meal deal 1: 210 pizzas, 2 x cans, 2 x chips and garlic bread for £9.99. If you can pick yourself up a menu — pin it to your notice board. Save the number in your phone in case you have a takeaway emergency at a friend’s house(this has happened to us!) The delivery is very quick and the prices are good value for what you get. The only downside is that currently they don’t accept payment by card.
