If you live in Grangetown this is THE place to bulk buy your Asian food. This is where I get my rice flour, blocks of dates and cheap tins of chickpeas. There is an excellent variety of dried, powdered and fresh food all very reasonably priced. The fruit appears to be mostly seasonal and the fresh figs are divine.
Supermarkets have started to sell specialist goods like those stocked here… but don’t go there go local. As well as brilliant value, you’ll get atmosphere with Clare food store. The narrow isles are not for pushchairs, but they will make the hunter-​gatherer in you come alive.
Tip: Bring cash, as they do not accept cards, the nearest cashpoint is Tescos just down the road — but remember get the cash and come straight back. Anything Tescos can do, Clare food can do better.
