There’s nothing inherently wrong with the Darkbean Café. The prices are quite reasonable, and it’s warm and comfortable. It offers a fairly wide range of drinks. There is also free wi-fi access. However, there’s something lacking. And it’s difficult to put your finger on quite what it is. I had a hot chocolate, served by a man who seemed in no great rush, and a brownie. The brownie was absolutely delicious but the hot chocolate was a little thin. We sat at one of the small tables, in chairs that were comfortable. We didn’t order anything else bbut we weren’t rushed out; probably because we were the only customers. So, what was wrong with it? To be honest, I can’t tell you. I just know that it offers nothing new to Cathays, except a new level of bland.
