Direkt gegenüber vom Schloss ein kleiner Laden für die Kleinigkeit zwischendurch. Die frisch zubereiteten Sandwiches sind super.

Cheap, well located, and surprisingly good. The«coffee shop with sandwiches» is quite typical and sometimes super gross and disappointing, but this place was really wonderful. I had a tomato mozzarella panini that came with tons of delicious mozzarella and super tasty, perfectly textured sesame bread. The store was staffed by one friendly girl who makes your sandwich as you order. They had an extensive menu, lots of choices, and the refrigerated case looked not so enticing(hence the ‘surprisingly good’), they could definitely up their presentation aspect… definitely. Coffee was also pretty good, definitely passed the test. We had two menu items and two drinks for like, £10. Deal. It’s directly across from the castle, so a great location if you’re visiting like we were.

The name says it all; Flavour. What are your thoughts when you hear flavour? Mine are my favourite types of flavours that this sandwich bar offers. If you have forgotten your lunch from home whilst on your break, why not take a little trip to this sandwich bar and indulge in the choices that it offers. It’s in a good location on high street right opposite Cardiff Castle. At least the employees get a good view everyday! That must be why they are in a good mood. The service there is excellent. I have been there a number of times and the manager who must own it is always very friendly and strikes up conversation with you. I became a regular so much that he knew what I wanted before I even ordered. Now that’s the service I want! They offer tea, coffee and a variety of soft drinks to go with your main meal whichever that may be. They offer a choice of sandwiches, pannini’s and gourmet baguettes. You can choose what you want in your sandwich on a selection of breads. There is a set menu with the pannini’s offering a variety of choice from ham and cheese to the more delicious chicken and red peppers. Every time I visit there I order one of those pannini’s that get lightly toasted on a sesame seed roll. It’s filling and satisfying. I highly recommend going to Flavour to try anything that they serve. It’s delicious, tasty and mouth watering. You can even eat your sandwich on a nice patch of grass right by Cardiff Castle. Now that’s got to be a better lunch than spending it in the office admiring the sunshine outside right? You’ll leave Flavour with one word in mind: Yum!

This fab little takeaway sandwich bar is located in a great spot, right opposite Cardiff castle, and is so popular that queues often snake out of the door. They’re open quite early in the morning, and offer far better(and cheaper) breakfast options than the likes of Nero, Starbucks or Costa — while for lunch their menu is mainly made up of fresh sandwich-type items such as paninis, baguettes, and so on, plus warming takeaway soups during the winter. They also do good coffee, and plenty of other drinks, and are a worthy independent alternative to nearby Subways. The place is tiny inside, so not somewhere you’ll loiter to eat your lunch — but since the staff are efficient and the service is so fast, the queues usually go down quickly and you don’t have to wait long.

If you fancy a Subway sandwich that isn’t a subway sandwich, then this is a great place to go. On the corner of High Street and Castle Street, opposite Cardiff Castle, this is a dinky little place for takeaway drinks and sandwiches. They have a good range of sandwich fillings to choose from and they make whatever it is that you want up right in front of your eyes. It’s a magical experience. Well, maybe not, but it’s good. During the winter these guys do some really fantastic cups of soup to take away, and this is what I know them for really. When it’s cold and home is a long way away, have soup instead of a coffee to heat you up as you trudge through the snow clutching it in your be-mittened hands. The staff here are lovely, and very quick to get you what you want, obviously used to long queues at lunch time. But they’re sometimes so friendly that I find myself hanging around long after I’ve been served just to have a little natter.

Every now and again I have a craving for soup, tomato soup to be exact. A little boring I know, but the soup at @Flavour are great! I like the fact I can get it fast and don’t have to sit down in a proper restaurant. A normally get myself a roll with it and a cup of coffee to perk me up. All for a reasonable price, especially when it tastes so good. Staff are cool here and serve pretty damn quick, all with a smile on there face. They do also serve baguettes, Panini’s, cakes, breakfast, tea etc so is well worth a visit for all your lunching needs.

The problem with Flavour is that they don’t know when to stop. The fillings in their sandwiches and baguettes are too generous, so much so that you have to stop them overloading with ingredients as this overpowers the subtleties of the flavour you are trying to achieve. What Flavour do well is that they stock a good selection of fillings, including less obvious choices such as roasted vegetable medleys, and fish fingers of all things. The breakfast menu is quite varied, with toast, bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, vegetarian options. But I’ve had mixed results with the porridge to be honest. The owner is very friendly and always happy to chat while your food is being prepared. And I’m looking forward now to the cold winter nights drawing in as it means they will be bringing back their homemade soup.
