Footasylum is new to Cardiff and with the sad demise of Faith, we need our shoe stores. This place has a cool, hip feel to it, but you get the feeling even from the outside that you need to be prepared to part with a fair wad of dosh to afford anything in here. They stock brands such as converse, vans and other highly priced trendy shoes. Somewhat of a rarity, they seem to provide for men more than women, not this is quite the oddity and one which will show if men love their shoes as much as the female species. Footasylum is a good place to go if you are male, have some dosh and like your shoe shopping simple. The store is easy to browse, modern and provides for a simple, clean shopping experience.

FootAsylum provides an ecletic mix of trainers, plimsolls and shoes aimed more towards the younger shoppers. With the funky sign displayed largely upon the shop’s exterior, walking through this retailer provides customers with a less familiar experience than they’re used to. With quite an alternative and ‘hip’ feel to this place, the cool, colourful shoes are displayed nicely across the walls. It’s fair to say FootAsylum would take pride in stocking a number of trainers and shoes that you would less likely find in other mainstream shops. The shop caters for young males better than any other demographic, with a small selection of clothes and hats also on sale. The prices are not much different from what you’d expect to pay in any other shop, which in reality means that you’ll have to fork out a fair wedge for brands like Nike, Adidas and so on. The staff are friendly and efficient, and overall this is a cool place to buy some cool trainers.

Footasylum sells a large and diverse range of brands, from the sporty to the more alternative. The store is bright(which seems to be going rather out of fashion if Hollister and Allsaints are anything to go by) and everything is really nicely arranged and easy to find. Sadly, it’s a men’s paradise, and women are practically ignored. It probably seems a little unfair of me to complain about this when there are so many stores aimed entirely at women, but men do seem to have the monopoly on stores that sell brands like Converse, Vans and the others in this store. In fact, Converse and Vans are pretty much the only thing you’re going to get for women here, and there are nowhere near as many as there are for men. There are no women’s clothes and barely any accessories. Seems to me that they may as well have left women out of it altogether, as the shop is definitely aimed at men, and most women probably wont even bother looking there for themselves. Looking at it purely as a men’s fashion store, though, it’s not that bad. Lots of brands, lots of colours, lots of tastes catered for. It’s fairly expensive, but then the brands they stock are nearly always expensive so it’s pretty much as you’d expect.
