Health With Herbs

Apart from the over-​emphasis on artificial-​looking tubs of body-​building protein mix powders, which hardly seem to fit with the concept of ‘Health With Herbs’, this shop does sell a decent range of more natural stuff.
You can pick up herbal remedies, health foods, caffeine-​free herbal and fruit teas, vitamins and minerals, and various gentle body lotions and potions. They also have some fresh produce such as dairy and dips, and it’s all pretty reasonably priced — as health food shops go.
Staff are happy to advise you about remedies for common ailments or health problems such as indigestion, insomnia, allergies and skin problems, plus detoxification products and aromatherapy. It’s also worth looking out for their sales, when many items are significantly discounted.

They have a great range of supplements and vitamins, and if you ask nicely they might even sell some of them to you. I advise that you go into the store knowing what it is that you want, however, as I always find it a little daunting otherwise. Fortunately they have a good, structured website that can help you out.
They have particularly good sporting sections, with all those powered drinks and the like — which I don’t fully understand, despite knowing a ton (probably literally) of body builders. They also have a good aromatherapy section, but they don’t let you smell things before you buy, and that, to me, is the most important thing. How do you know what you want your baths smelling of otherwise?
Health With Herbs is a store which specialises in the medically orientated side of health foods and nutrients. The prices are pretty much the same as other places of this ilk, but you won’t be tempted to buy gluten-​free jaffa cakes (this can be both good and bad).

As far as I’m aware, there are two Health With Herbs outlets in Cardiff, this one on Cowbridge Road East, and another in The Royal Arcade in the centre of town, (off St Mary Street, and The Hayes). It’s reassuring to know that they have opted to set up shop on a road that seems to be flooded with cholesterol and big fat meals comprised of empty calories, and a lot of them! Health With Herbs gives me hope that the people of Canton will live to see their fortieth birthdays!
I love this place. It’s a no-​nonsense health shop, that doesn’t circumb to all the gimmicks that more ‘upmarket’ shops trade on in order to optimise profits. I come here for things like Agnus Castus, and therapeutic doses of Vit C when I’m fighting infection. It’s a really well stocked shop, with eminently affordable prices. It’s brilliant!

Unfortunately I don’t think that this shop is worth a trip out of your way for, particularly and mainly because of the wealth of greatness that is inside those dark green doors of Holland and Barrett. Holland and Barrett is an excellent shop so this one has a lot to live up to. Whilst it does manage to keep up with regards to customer service (which is absolutely brilliant here), it just can’t compete with such good all-​round prices. That is the nature of it being a smaller shop. Also, the range isn’t quite as good. You’ll probably find what you need but you might find yourself frustrated if it’s something a little bit more obscure. At the same time, the staff seem to know what they’re talking about so if you want help, this is the place to go.
