After a hard days retail therapy in the capital i was looking for a pitstop where i could grab a bite to eat and have a sit down(I’m really not an old man). I spotted a big sign for Hudsons café just next to JJB on Queen street so i thought i’d check it out. Inside there’s friendly staff; one who takes your order and puts it through the till and one who, if you want it, heats up your preffered snack. In this case I plumped for a chicken and mozzarella panini and was instructed to take a seat(which are outside) and it would be with me in five minutes. True to his word, the lad behind the counter brought out my panini on time and it had been toasted perfectly so the cheese had melted a little and the chicken was warm, delicious. The location of this café and the seats is ideal for anyone who wants to sit down not far from the shops but doesn’t want to sit directly amongst the hustle and bustle on Queen street. There is a decent range of food on offer too from cold baguettes and a number of fillings to warmed up toasties and baked potatoes, perfect for a mid-shop stop.

This is a good place to grab a quick lunch, even during the lunch hour rush. This is because it is sandwich vendor entirely built on the premise that if you have a clear Entrance door at one end and an Exit door at the other end the stream of customers will be constant and organised. At times it can feel like the phenomenal ‘Soup Nazi’ episode of Seinfeld, but efficiency is the key here. Make your choice because you are just part of a queue of hungry people. The baguettes and sandwiches are good, and fairly priced. If you fancy getting something you know was freshly prepared that day rather than something questionable from a supermarket then Hudsons is a good place to try for lunch. If it is quiet enough then you may be able to grab a seat outside, but it’s all food that comes as takeaway stuff so this isn’t really a major issue. Unless it is to you. I don’t know. Some people are weird like that.

I have been hungover once or twice in my life. I don’t know if your like me but I am generally out of pocket and ravenous the morning after. Stumbling past the clubs that were responsible for the awful hangover I had, I noticed Hudsons café. Nae, I saw how cheap it was and the smell of food swayed me to visit it. Deciding on a sausage baguette, I ordered the saviour of my stomach. The service was very quick and seems quite efficient in stationing staff on different food groups etc. I personally wouldn’t sit and eat there as I’m not a fan of smaller places as people queue around you. but you can if you want to and also has seating outside for the rare occasions of a warm enough day to do so.

This place is great. When Christmas comes round, they do the best Christmas baguette with pork/sausage/stuffing in the whole of Cardiff. Add to that it’s only about £3, its well worth a visit. There never seems to be a queue & I have no idea how they get your order correct everytime, but somehow they do!

I’m always amazed when I go in here by the way the man who takes your order and money shouts what you want to the staff at the other end of the shop and they NEVER get it wrong! Somehow each member of staff has their own station to work on(jackets, paninis etc) and they must have an elephantine memory to not forget the dozens of orders that come their way! Reasonable prices and quick service, jackets can be a bit hit or miss I think. Queue always goes down really quickly.

A great little food shop in cardiff, they do really tasty baguettes-sausage & bacon, together or on there own & this sounds daft but the ketchup use is delicous– i could just eat a tub of it(but i wont coz think that’d be too good!!!) mmmm!!! only £1.50 woo hoo! and the staff are very nice

Cheap snacks and sandwiches in a central, prime location(just off Queen St). Staff can sometimes appear moody and put out by customers turning up, which does put you off wanting to return! Good value though if you want a cheap but filling snack on the run.
