Me and some friends have said a few times that we should try this place, it looks nice from the outside and is pretty close to my house. Last night we finally decided to give it a go and dropped in for some drinks. The fact it was empty should have been a warning. The random décor was less kitsch and more like walking into the mind of a crazy person, which should have been a warning. Undeterred, we sat down and ordered drinks, which took ages to arrive. During this time, there were none of the usual sounds of cocktail preparation, which should have been a warning. When they finally did arrive, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. In fact, I’m still bitter about having to pay fully cocktail price(£5.90) for what was basically a small glass of coke that tasted vaguely of alcohol. My girlfriend ordered a woo woo, which just tasted like cranberry juice. Maybe the owner’s particular brand of craziness lends itself well to parties, but this is not a bar I will ever go to again. After this, we went to the Woody and had a good time.

I thought this place was going to be great. It looks great from outside and the décor inside too with comfy seating and a dark moody feeling sets you up for something good. Sadly we found the service quite slow, there wasn’t much choice in the way of tapas, my partners nachos and chilli were very disappointing and the choice of mains only consisted of Tacos, Quesadillas, chimichanga’s and lasagna! Basically its can’t really call itself a tapas bar or a mexican restaurant. Spaniards would be shocked.

This restaurant is pretty close to my boyfriend’s house but for some reason we just never went. During the we’d walk past and say ‘Oh, we must definitely go there soon. Yes? Let’s go there’ and the, come evening, we’d forget about it/not be in the mood. One evening we remembered AND wanted to go so we headed inside, a little nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the long wait. Man, does it, though. The food is pure excellence; it’s light, delicious, good quality. We didn’t have to wait long for it. The whole place has a really good ambience. The service was great. The prices are incredible too — looking at the menu you think ‘Hmm, those prices are alright’ but then when you see the amount you get… phewph! I love, love, love it.

I went to Mango for an engagement party over the weekend, and I must admit that I’m split in my decision whether I like this place or not. The décor is great. I love the lanterns and dim lighting, comfy seating and there’s an outdoor hut where you can use the hooker pipes. Now onto the bad part. the lady who owns it had double booked the venue, not the greatest thing you want to hear on arrival that there’s a party of another 8 – 10 people for birthday celebrations, the place is small enough as it is. Not enough food was brought out for the amount paid, and when questioned on this, the reply was basically, ‘you’ve had enough, I’m not bringing anymore out.’ To put it politely. The staff do not know how to pour a pint, and you physically get forced into dancing with maraca’s. I must admit, it was rather humorous to watch the pain of embarrassment in the groom to be’s face. Oh, and another thing. I actually got told off for taking my drink into the toilet! How ridiculous is that. I’m not leaving a drink unoccupied for any so and so to potentially drop something in there. Apparently there are camera’s everywhere. Beware. The best part of the night was the company and the cake bought in from Costco. Decision made. I won’t be going here again.

I went to Mango for a work lunch when a good friend was leaving. She’d rung up in advance and booked a table and when we got there it was all ready for us and the owner was incredibly welcoming and friendly. I really liked the décor, nice brown leather armchairs and window seats with pretty cushions and warm paint colours made it look fresh and modern without being too boring. There is an internet room just off the main room where you can check your emails and there seemed to be lots of people popping in for coffee and cake. Although I was told it was a tapas café it wasn’t quite what I expected with more Mexican dishes on the menu than the Spanish dishes I’d normally expect with tapas. However the food was all really nice and very reasonably priced.(The chimichangas looked amazing!) In all honesty the service was a bit slow but they are so friendly it didn’t seem to matter. We were happy to sit around chatting in the lovely surroundings. To all those cake lovers out there I would definately recommend their cakes and desserts — they have a VERY tempting selection at the counter — personally I’d go for the cheesecake if I were you! All in all we had a lovely experience in here, the bill at the end for a group of 7 of us was very reasonable. I took my mum in recently too and even she was impressed
