The Midnight Store does just what it says on the tin. It’s the late night, one stop shop for all those things that cannot possibly wait until the morning. And by «all those things» I mean«cigarettes, liquor and condoms». Perhaps due to the target market, there’s an air of grime that pervades the shop whenever you go. It always seems just a little bit dirtier than it should legally be allowed to be. You get the sense that the shop owners are fully aware of what kind of people shop in, what is effectively a corner shop, during the wee hours of the morning and so have designed the store to reflect their psyches in some Jungian psych-experiment given life. But if you can get passed the grime(and if you really need to shop here, you will), it’s a shop that sets out to do a specific job and it does it well. You can hardly complain about that.

The Midnight Shop always feels empty, like they could stock more things but choose to concentrate on slabs of beer and fags. Saying that they don’t hold anywhere near as much tobacco products compared to other corner shops down Crwys road. It’s a surprise that they even stock milk if I’m being honest as it’s practically the only fresh thing in there. And how can a corner shop not stock newspapers? I mean seriously, no papers, no magazines, nothing. As has been noted, it is there if you run out of booze at a house party or decide to continue on after you’ve been booted out of The Heath or The Flora but for all intents and purposes you’d be better off wandering further along Whitchurch Road to the Londis or making your way down Crwys Road. The only things this place has going for it is that it is open until midnight.

I have been in to the Midnight Store quite a few times and like Laura has pointed out it is very much for emergencies. What do you mean emergencies? I hear you cry, well and I’m being brutally honest the only time I have used it is when I’ve either been at a party and the supplies have run out or we have come back from a night out and wanted to carry on. The price reflects this as well as it is far from cheap and there are plenty of other shops in the area that can offer better prices then the midnight store. I have never bought food from here only booze and I was desperate and if your desperate quite frankly you’ll pay anything to get you through then night but its nice to know that midnight store is there, just in case. Legend has it my friend once walked this place before well midnight and it wasn’t open.

This shop is dirty. I’m sorry but there isn’t really any way around the fact that I felt I needed to wipe my feet on the way OUT of the shop. This is definitely only a place for absolute emergencies — and for eating food that has been pre-wrapped… I got my painkillers(see? Only for something that you absolutely need to get…) and high-tailed it out of there. To be honest, I’m not even going to give it any more time. This is one instance when going for the Tesco down the road is better than the local.
