This place is one of my favourite restaurants, especially being all vegetarian and lots of vegan options. I have been here ALOT They do a weekly curry which is highly recommended amongst other things, the doughnuts are also amazing(if you have room). The menu is not to big either however this doesnt help you with all the delicious choices! The cocktails are really good too and it is a great relaxed atmosphere in the evening Highly recommended

I went to Milgi for a late lunch /early dinner and I absolutely loved it! Milgi is a vegetarian restaurant and a bar with lots of seasonal options both in food and in the drink side as well. I had the Butter Bean, Dill & Saffron Cassoulet from the seasonal menu and a chili Mojito and a Maple Rye Sour — all of them very delicious with beautiful plates. The décor is very relaxed and funky, it’s very inviting, young and cool. The atmosphere is great for that kind of menu. This place is a hit for me in all aspects. I will definitely be going again to try some more delicious food from the menu.

This has to be my favourite place in Cardiff, whether you want to have a healthy home-made amazing vegetarian meal, smoothie or yummy fresh cocktail this place has something for everyone. Full of arty and vintage touches, comfy couches, a yurt and great little garden, it has a really great social atmosphere without being pretencious. They also run a lot of events such as supper nights, art club, curry club and vintage fairs. They often have chilled DJ’s and the staff are always friendly and very helpful. I also love the changing food menu they use local food and I have never been disappointed.

When I was last here with the hubs we walked by a closed Milgi and I thought to myself, I must eat here! –glad to have made it possible. My hungry friend and I shared a starter of beetroot and apple salad with feta and an amazing mix of hearty greens. I ordered the cheese and onion ‘sausages’ over a lovely mash with a coconut and lime ‘relish’ and a tomato-based sauce. The presentation was just as appealing as the meal itself. My companion ordered what looked to be an Indian inspired dish of chickpeas with ginger, perfectly cooked basmati rice also spiced with a bit of ginger and a shaved carrot and beetroot salad with fennel and toasted hemp seeds. She had to pry me off of her salad as it was so flavourful and I wanted to it eat all up! Her meal came in a three-compartment cylindrical tin(I’ve seen folk use these things for camping, and, back in Berkeley, saw many folk bringing a variation of this travel ‘tin’ to work packed with their lunch) that she disassembled at table and put everything together on her plate as she saw fit. If the main portion of the resto is full, then find a seat in the yurt out back. We peeked into it and saw that it was cosily decorated with wooden side tables, wooden chairs with cushions, comfy sofas with crocheted blankets draped over them and old-timey lamps giving off a warm, indirect light. Yurt heaven! For those who wish for a bit of fresh air, around the back side of the yurt is a picnic table for your sitting pleasure, and lots of space to stand around chatting, drinking(I don’t know about smoking) under the stars. You can also have an amazing cocktail while you wait for some of the most ridiculously good veggie food this side of the Mississippi! I saw some shaved-ice looking concoction garnished with fruit, a variety of martinis, bevvies in pitchers that didn’t appear to be Pimms Cup, and, of course, good old beer and wine, too. They offer, among other things, two of my faves Gem Ale a la Bath and Erdinger aus Deutschland. I drank the former. The décor of Milgi is funky and warm. The tables are topped with fresh-cut roses and covered in brightly-coloured table cloths. The walls are decorated with art and mirrors. The front of the resto is decked out in sofas and coffee tables. The groups up there seemed to be less focused on grub and more focused on cocktails. It was a nice mix of diners and drinkers on the night I went in to Milgi. I am enthralled with Milgi and wish that we had an equivalent here in LDN!

I just came home from spending a week in the UK, and out of everything I did, going to Milgi for dinner was one of my favorite things. Before leaving for Cardiff, I spent a hundred hours on the internet looking things to do and places to eat besides pubs and McDonald’s. I found Milgi on Pinterest, and I’m glad I did. It wasn’t in any guidebooks I saw, which is too bad for other tourists. I’m just glad I found out about it and decided to have an adventure finding it from the City Centre. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere even better. My only regret is that I didn’t sit in the yurt.

Eat. Art. Drink. Music. With these four words, Milgi writes its own review. Here, you can fill up your empty bellies, admire the art or partake in your own form of creation, sip on cocktails and milkshakes and listen to music. But I don’t mean to patronise you. There is more to this list of words than four separate terms. Together, they interweave and overlap, forming an exciting bar experience. ‘Eat Art’: Milgi makes food an art form by maintaining a military refusal to use pre-packed or processed food, instead opting for ingredients from Welsh cooperatives and the Roath Market. After recently making the conscientious move to fully vegetarian, the grub here is beautiful both inside and out. Art Drink: Have you seen the drinks here? Decorated by sprinkles, garnished with pieces of fruit and served in pretty shabby-chic mugs. Lovely. Drink Music: They are a selective bunch here. They won’t let any old wailer in with their guitar. As a result, the listening to the music here is a warming, comfortable experience whether the artist in question is an award-winning DJ or is part of a chilled out folk act. The ideas behind Milgi are bold and varied, but don’t they work well together? The result is a wonderful ‘lifestyle’ bar that makes me wish I knew how to knit and play the accordian. URBANCHALLENGE: Catch the storytelling sessions in the yurt. Tales of witches, dragons and princesses best enjoyed with chilli chocolate.

Ok, well everyone is raving about this place, so I’m going to break the mould and start on a bad point, this place is too far from my house, that’s it, that’s the only bad thing. I would love to go to this place more often but it is situated amongst takeaways and daytime shops, which is no good if you want to go on a bit of a bar crawl where you end up in town. It is truly pretty in here and the décor has been well thought out, showing that the people who run this place have a true grasp of art and a passion to provide you with an alternative and cultural environment to chill out in. The food and drink is not your normal fare, you will find something that will excite you, something that will make you want to come back and try everything on the menu. They even have a yurt at this fantastic place where they hold regular story telling events. So revert to your childhood fellow Unilocalers, grab a cup of tea, a homemade cookie and make yourself at home.

I’m seriously impressed with Milgi’s. I think maybe now I’ve graduated and calmed down a bit; I appreciate a really relaxed, chilled out funky bar, and like to seek out the unusual and quirky. This is not a crazy, loud, beer guzzlers bar, its more of a hippy’s paradise, somewhere even your parents would love! So, last night I ventured in, and appreciated the place in a different light. It was really quiet and some soft African beats where playing in the background. I ordered vodka and lemonade, which I thought would be pretty standard and boring… but this is Milgi’s, and everything comes with a twist. I sipped fresh, sweet and sour homemade lemonade with a sprig of mint, good enough to make me order three more… We then strolled through into the Yurt, which is a sort of Tepee, full of fairy lights, candles and mismatched, boho style comfy sofas and beds to stretch out and relax in this little haven of artsy chic. Everything you order is homemade, fair trade and delicious, and they’ve recently changed the menu to vegetarian only. I’m a meat lover but there food is fantastic, and worth a go. It’s slightly on the pricey side, but you cant beat healthy, fresh, homemade cooking, in a fun and unique setting too. There’s always something going on, whether it’s like DJS, bands and story telling to W. I meetings and art sales. Every night is a good night at Milgi’s.

You lean back and yawn luxuriously. You casually reach across and take a sip of a cucumber and elderflower Mojito, the pleasant conversation of a local knitting group sitting opposite makes you realise you’re in a bar unlike any other. Oh, and you’re sat in a dimly lit Mongolian Yurt. You can only be at Milgi. Before waxing lyrical about the place, I must point out; Milgi is not in the best location. City road is so much the opposite of everything it offers you could be mistaken for thinking Milgi is some kind of bohemian Narnia to its surroundings. Perhaps though, this is part of Milgi’s charm. The thought and effort that has been put into the eclectic range of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks is refreshing, it’s a place that isn’t frightened of trying something new. The same can be said for the food; a charming, home-cooked selection without the slightest hint of pretention. Despite all this, Milgi’s appeal lies, above all else, in its atmosphere. The emphasis on local art, displayed in a modern, alternative format lends an air of individuality to the bar, while yet more effort has gone into making sure performance(Music, Drama et all) itself features regularly. Milgi aims to be a fine blend of food, drink, music and art, and it is an undoubted success. It is a touch ambitious to consider it much more than an unusual bar, but the effort that is put into championing local art and performance is admirable. Milgi is an eccentric, quirky, hug of a bar and one of the highlights of Cardiff.

«Recipes from around the world, food from around the corner» That’s the tagline on the menu for Milgi and they have a very impressive selection of dishes available. The menu is also highly Vegan adaptable and all you have to do is ask to see if your dish can be altered accordingly. I opted for the Grilled Halloumi(Goats cheese) and it was absolutely amazing. Would definitely recommend it. They’ve got all sorts of interesting drinks too such as homemade cola, lemonade and ginger beer. Also an impressive array of milkshakes, which if I had the time and money, I certainly would have tried! The alcohol is also reasonably priced with a double JD and coke and a Corona coming in at just over the £5 mark. The staff there were instantly engaging and friendly and we were served by Jayde(who I think is sadly leaving soon). The atmosphere was really cool and chilled. Some say the clientele have a propensity to be a little stuck up but to be honest I saw no evidence of this. The best thing about Milgi for me is the sense of individuality. There’s a huge yurt outside with seating and cushions and the like, and a fairly large beer garden. For me, Milgi provides the same chilled out, arty kind of atmosphere that you would get in Buffalo or the Cardiff Arts Institute but, in my opinion better. It’s got more of a personal touch, the prices are better, and it’s got a yurt. Nuff said.

My only criticism of this place is that it’s not closer to my house. Every Milgi visit has been characterised by attentive wait and bar staff, not to mention delicious, reasonably-priced fare. Chowing down on nutritious, organic and locally-sourced ingredients means you can enjoy your meal with a clear conscious. Last time I was there, I tried their Thai-style soup — it was a weekday special, so it doesn’t regularly feature on the menu, but it was so good I’m tempted to call them up and see when it’s back on. Sad, I know, but true. I think Milgi is best enjoyed on a quiet afternoon, where you can laze on the sofas and watch life on City Road from the large street-facing window. The evening revellers are often a bit pretentious, but it’s not enough to put me off(I find it’s preferable to the boisterous rugby and football crowds). And there’s always something to see or do here — whether it’s comedy, music or poetry reading, the ladies behind Milgi sure know how to keep Cardiff’s fickle public on its toes.

My friends and I were pretty excited when we came across a little piece in Company magazine, naming this THE place to go for drinks in Cardiff. It being just around the corner from our house we pretty much ventured out straight away to try it out for ourselves. There is a definite ‘cool’ set of people who go here. Some of them are pretty irritating to be around(they’re a little bit ‘on drugs on the top floor of Welsh club’ for people who know Cardiff well) but you can easily put them to the back of your mind. Their whole thing is to spend half their time admiring each other’s trilbys, and the other half looking disdainfully at anyone who dares bop to music. The place itself is so cute. It’s a really good-looking lounge. I have never had food here but the drinks are excellent. They are just delicious and the bar people are really friendly. There is a garden at the back so one balmy summer evenings(will they ever come?) we will definitely be heading out there. Unfortunately, for now, we’ll be staying inside — none of us are good in the cold. Anyway, a great place. Go here for birthdays, catching up(there’s a DJ but the music is pretty quiet as bars go so you’ll be able to hear each other), dates, anything. Just as long as you go!

I do like Milgi, but I used to like it even more. The cocktails aren’t as good as they used to be, before the sister’s that owned it expanded to other venues. There have been instances where we’ve been told by the rather discourteous staff that we couldn’t go in because it was too busy. There have been other times when I’ve just wanted a quiet Sunday evening drink and the place has been rammed with quirky, yet undesirable vintage, hippy stalls, selling mirror covered moo-moos and tie-dye bags. The place just isn’t big enough for this. The summer events and the yurt(when it’s not leaking) are pretty cool though, but the food is over-priced and over-rated, excluding the pie-minister pies.

Milgi’s is a great little place that combines food, drink, music and art. Totally vibrant and with great cocktails and resident DJ’s spinning laid back hits. It’s especially good if you’re not drinking because the virgin cocktails are huge and absolutely delicious. The jewel in the crown is the Yurt in the back garden. My friends and I call it the ‘cool shack’ because we’re absolutely not cool…

Been there a few times already and each of the times it didn’t disappoint me, it is a very young and cool place. You wouldn’t see this out of place in the middle of Barcelona, or other trendy city. I really liked their cocktail options, a really wide menu with some really tasty ones. The thing I am yet to try is their food but I’ve been told it is very very good, specially the brunch! The first time I was there was to see a design exhibition they had on display and that really interested me. After that I went there for a mini festival, with music, design, food and burlesque dancing! A strange mix but that went down really well. I am hoping to attend the Northcote lane market! Will report! ;) If I had to say something bad about it it would have to be the indifference of the team, they were a bit rude and didn’t seem to care about the customer. Other than that it is faultless! Do try the Yurt! On a hot day it looked a bit stuffy but on a cold winter day it does looks lovely!

Hands down the best cocktail place in Cardiff — lots of varieties, flavours, styles and good balance of non-alcohol and alcoholic drinks. Their mojitos and candy collins are especially more-ish! There is also a good selection of other hot and cold beverages, their hot chocolate is particularly of note and perfect for a cold Cardiff day. Food is generally of a high standard and not too expensive. Good variety of healthy food on offer The bar itself presents as quite arty but welcoming with lots of comfy seating and the giant yurt outback with its vintage furniture is a great place to kick back with some relaxing music and
