If there was a sixth star available I would award it to this place. It has everything I am looking for when it comes to a café/bar. By day«One» is perfect for a coffee with a newspaper or for lunch with friends. By night this is my ideal place to go and relax with a glass of wine. «One» very rarely gets to busy. I cannot think of one occasion where I have struggled to find a seat whether it be day or night. The food menu here is not the biggest I have ever seen but the dishes I have tried have all been mouth watering good. Sandwiches tend to be served with a salad garnish which is a nice touch. The staff in «One» are so friendly. The manager is very cute and always has a smile ready and waiting for me. He always gets me to sit down and then brings my order over. In the evenings this bar is perfect for a first date as it is quiet and it dosen’t attract groups of young people screaming and spilling their drinks. It is also a perfect place to go before or after watching a show in the Millenium Centre.

This is probably my favourite bar in Cardiff bay. One of the reasons for this is because most people do not regard it as a bar(more a coffee shop) and it is therefore never over run unlike the bars over the other side of the bay like Salt and Terra Nova. Sitting inside is very pleasant as are the staff, especially the manager, who I think i called Hugo but to me its big selling point is its outside area. It over looks the oval basin and faces the sun. I have spent many a summer day having a few cheeky ones chatting away whilst the sun goes into the bay. So if this isn’t your bag — stay away(that way there is more room for the rest of us who do).

Now, I can’t comment on the food because I didn’t eat here, but One seemed quite a nice little place to me. I went during the middle of the day and just had a quick cup of tea while out and about in the bay. The staff member who served me was lovely, and had a great attitude with customers in general. Sitting outside, there’s a great view of Roald Dahl Plaza and the bay, although it can get a little windy. I would advise sitting inside next to the window on brisk days. However, they lose a star because they had a lovely full list of teas with some really interesting flavours, but didn’t seem to actually have any of them in stock. Most disappointing. But I would probably manage to get over that slight before I go back again.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the vegetarian menu here, in terms of range. In fact, it was very limited, particularly for a tapas menu, which normally has a whole load of vegetarian stuff available. However, the food itself was good. It tasted just beautiful — so I guess I’ll let them off on that one. Also, I was really impressed with the prices, considering the location and the quality of the food, so thumbs up for that. The service was excellent; I expected it to be good, considering the location, but even so I was happy. All in all, a really good little place to go, though it’s kind of one of those places that you’ll say ‘Oh, we’re here, let’s go to One’ or ‘Oh, yeah sure, I don’t mind going to One’. It’s not something to get excited about, in other words.

One is an independent little bar inside the already impressive Wales millennium centre. We went for tapas, you can chose three dishes that come with pitta bread for around a tenner, we were feeling a bit flush so had the champagne option which cost us £17(7 quid for a glass of champagne is a bit mental retrospectively). Of course I chose the veggie options which included Garlic Mushrooms, Mediterranean vegetables and feta in oil and a good stack of pitta. It was yummy, not exactly mind blowing but really tasty. What does make this place unique is the fantastic view over the bay, so essentially that’s what your paying for with your £7 glass of champagne and limited tapas menu. It was worth a visit but it’s not the kind of place I’d go regularly.
