Went there today for the first time, believe it or not. Was really busy but managed to find a table and looked over the menu. We both decided to have the deluxe burger which comes with a flat mushroom, onion ring, Irish cheese and served in a soft white bap, the burger is made from 100% Irish beef. This is also served with chips. We ordered our food along with 2 Pepsi’s at the bar and were served by a friendly barkeeper, and sat back down. After a few minutes we were brought our drinks and about 10 – 15 minutes later our food arrived Wow the burgers were tall and my first thought was ‘how am I ever going to get my mouth round that’. The waiter asked if he can get anything else, to which we wanted vinegar which was brought straight over. The food was extremely nice indeed and the cheese was REALCHEDDAR and not the processed muck you get on fast food burgers. They also had a bottle of Irish burger relish, which was some of the best we’ve ever tried. All in all it was a great meal and would definitely go there again. Highly recommended!

I was undecided whether to review this place as a bar as it is so popular throughout the U. K but I then thought the few times i have ventured into this particular establishment there has been live music playing, so why not review it in terms of that? I’m sure you agree. The area that musicians take to is ideal for a good singalong and it is obvious it is purposly built for this reason. The performer is on a raised stage towards the front of the room, whilst the bar is cleverly positioned at the other side of the room so even if you fancy a tipple you won’t have to miss any of the performance. This also works for the performer as they will gain confidence from the amount of people in the room(even if the people are just getting a pint!). The wooden decour in this room gives a great sound for any band or singer playing live and even though the drinks might set you back a fair amount, if you fancy a bit of live music but don’t want to book any tickets in advance or pay a hefty amount get yourself down to O’neills and you won’t be dissapointed.

This is the larger of the two O’Neill’s in Cardiff. This O’neill’s has a cosy feel to it and attracts the locals as well as the student customer. I do like the O’Neill’s menu, you can get many a dish that is £3 and a stomache warming one at that, consisting of hot pots and sausage meals, all with an Irish twist of course. I really enjoyed my meal and would go back to eat there again, especially on a cold, wintry day. I personally prefer to eat in the smaller O’Neill’s near Cardiff market as it has a friendlier feel to the place, being a bit out of the way of the main road. The drinks naturally can be an absolute bargain, me and my friend had a bottle of wine for £7.20 and it didn’t even taste like vinegar — outstanding. I don’t think they play live acoustic music acts here like the smaller O’neill’s, but you catch them playing the odd Irish tune during your stay, it is O’Neill’s after all. Perfect if you like your pubs dimly lit, Irish and cheap.

O’Neill’s isn’t the best pub in town, but it’s definitely not the worst, either. I always manage to have a good time here, but I think that’s mostly down to the company, not anything else in particular. One thing is for certain, O’Neill’s outshines all area Wetherspoons in terms of food, atmosphere and clientele. Don’t get me wrong, I love a dive bar just as much as the next girl, but I enjoy O’Neill’s a bit more because it possesses the carefree charm that Wetherspoons lacks. I do remember one occasion when I came here on a Saturday night, when I was refused service for not having any ID. Instead of being extremely flattered, I was extremely annoyed that O’Neill’s came between me and my pint. I just went somewhere else instead. O’Neill’s is perfect for after-work drinks with your mates, but I much prefer Duke of Wellington down the road.

I really like O’Neill’s pubs, but perhaps that’s just me? Mainly I would go to O’Neill’s for a cheap and hearty feed that can better any Wetherspoons any day of the week. They specialise in Irish food, meaning that soda bread and colcannon abound. My personal favourite in their Fisherman’s Pie, with king prawns, muscles and smoked haddock, topped with cheesy colcannon. All for a tiny £5, and I can never finish it. Their sausages are also delicious, particularly the vegetarian variety. They also have a really good range of main meals that only cost £3.49 a pop. The service has always been grand in this establishment(see what I did there?) Although this pub can get very busy on a Friday and Saturday night, or when there is a match taking place in the Millennium Stadium. If that’s the case, I would recommend going to the other branch just around the corner next to St. John’s Church. Either way. Food good. Drink good. Good.

Oneils décor feels like it’s trying to hard to have that ‘everyman’ spit and sawdust style to their pubs, which is a mystery to myself and the Scooby Doo gang. Everything feels cheap, except the price of drinks that is. I’m not sure why, I just never have it in my mind to visit the pub often if I’m going for drinks. There is a wide range of folk that frequent the pub and does always seem to have a decent atmosphere. You can watch the likes of the mighty Spurs(and other football teams if you’re less of a sado-masochist) playing if they are on Sky Sports which I have done on various occasions. Annoyingly they do not have sound for the games and will continue to play music. O’Neils also serves food and is pretty much the same as any other pub, price wiseit is likened to that of Wetherspoons. Infact O’Neils does just feel like every other pub and doesn’t really adhere to it’s Irish roots at all.

Conveniently positioned on teh main street for nightlidfe in cardiff, this O’Neill’s has a nice old fashioned feel to it, and always has a nice buzz to it. The cheesey nightclub upstairs is always funa nd plays a mix of 70s, 80s and 90s. A fun, hasslefree night out

This O Neills Irish Bar is set inside fantastic building that spent many years as a cinema(frequently showing blue movies or so i’m told!). The inside is laid out over two floors and has a bar on both levels. The ground floor is humungous and there is a large open seating area with lots of round tables, a dining area with larger square tables plus lots of snug alcoves too. Upstairs there is less seating but there are some huge arched windows that give a great view of the street life below. The upstairs area is also the family area where children can drink and eat until the early evening. Being an old cinema it has kept a lot of the original features and there is a balcony area that you cannot use but has cardboard cut-outs of people that make it look like a real cinema audience — brilliant. Due to its closeness to the main shopping area, The Millennium Stadium and the Cardiff Central railway station the pub does get really busy. Being a JD Wetherspoon pub means that the drinks and food prices are really cheap. It’s a great place to start your weekend!
