Real Radio

If you want to listen to a bit of light-​hearted pop music, both current chart toppers and other contemporary classic hits, then Real Radio isn’t a bad choice.
Aimed at 25 – 54 year olds, it’s an independent local radio that broadcasts on FM from Morganstown in Cardiff right across South and West Wales. It does have a slightly cheesy tone — as do most local radio stations — but the music is easy to listen to and their news bulletins are pretty good, combining some national and showbiz stories, and some local news. They also sometimes run some decent competitions, and have regular features such as ‘Pop the Question’ every weekday (on the mid morning show) when they ask a set of questions, and listeners call in with their answers — with the chance to win a prize (such as a DAB digital radio) if they get them right.

I hate commercial radio, there’s something about all those catchy commercial ditties that just get stuck in your head and make me crazy. Still I do occasionally switch to Real Radio for a bit of cheese in the evenings when other stations get serious. I like David Heane’s Evening show for a bit of sit along action on the way home for example.
It’s about as good as commercial radio gets really, there is something on there for everyone and on the Welsh version I like that they give you news on what’s going on and different tips like the money saving tips for eating out.
