The Magic Roundabout was erected in 1992 when it was created by the French artist Pierre Vivant, born in Paris in 1952. Basically, this is a roundabout in Splott which has homes a set of sculptures which have been created using road signs. The road signs have been incorporated into sculptures of larger shapes and look highly unnatural, I am used to seeing road signs on a post, the right way up and only where appropriate. These are all mixed up in various perspectives and in the middle of a roundabout so the signs actually serve no purpose to anyone using the highway. There used to be spaces in some of the sculptures so you could effectively climb inside but they ended up covering these«holes» up as some people were reported to have started living inside. This roundabout is very often used as a landmark when giving directions as it is so easy to spot when travelling in that area. I remember seeing this on my first ever visit to Cardiff when I was younger and the image really set firmly in my mind. Remember to look at the actual road signs on the road rather than the roundabout ones if you are lost!

This is one Cardiff landmark that definitely deserves the Unilocal category of ‘Local Flavour’. It is, quite simply, a one-off that you’re unlikely to stumble across anywhere else on your travels. Basically, many years ago a local artist was let loose on one of the city’s roundabouts and this outlandish collection of sculptures was the result. Constructed entirely from road signs, this off-beat piece of street art has transformed a boring feature into something that every Cardiff resident knows, and affectionately terms ‘The Magic Roundabout’. There aren’t many sights to see in Splott, but if you’re driving through the area make sure you take a little trip around the roundabout a few times to get a good look!

I bloody love this round about! It usually at this point i’m lost somewhere between the bay and the city centre and then i see this magical is-ore. Made out of road signs by an artist(not a piss) called Pierre Vivant it really is something to behold. Now, careful if you want to go having your picture taken on here, its pretty tricky round about seen’s as its a busy one. I don’t want to be the cause of any mishaps or worse still, deaths! Now obviously it’s not one of Cardiff main attractions and if you’re reading this from across the waters you’re better off just checking out on Unilocal other than booking flights over. Its nothing spectacular but is definitely worth mentioning for its quirkiness. One of the prettier round about’s the city has to offer!

No, not the much loved children’s TV program(although Florence and Zebedee wouldn’t look out of place here) but a roundabout of bizarre sculptures made out of roadsigns. This affectionately known Splott landmark even has a claim to fame, it featured in a 2008 ‘Roundabouts of Britain’ calendar! The quirky roundabout was designed by artist Pierre Vivant.
