Joymount Arms, Better known as Ownies is a gem in the crown of Carrickfergus. Great atmosphere, Brilliant menu, Fabulous food with value for money. We had dinner in Ownies on what was a very busy night. The bar was full and the restaurant was bursting yet we were looked after very well. The fantastic food was served with as smile, on time and with no delays. The quality of the food was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome. Ownies is well worth a visit, you wont be disappointed. We will be back again very soon. Enjoy!!!

I’m extremely surprised at the less than stellar reviews this bar has received so far. I have been coming here ever since I was old enough, and absolutely love it. Contrary to what has been said, I feel 100% safe in this bar, and unlike a lot of other places that can get a bit rowdy, I have never seen anything untoward in this bar whatsoever. Anyway, the Joymount Arms, or Ownies, as it is locally known, is pretty much one of the liveliest most popular bars in the town. They have had a refurb quite recently, and there is loads of space for everyone(my only complaint previously was that, owing to its popularity, it got so packed and it was hard to move!) They have two bars downstairs, and a further bar upstairs with a function room and balcony. They have a huge, covered smoking area with widescreen TV’s outside, and lots of heaters, so even in the middle of the winter, you won’t get cold! They have lots of live music, promotion nights, quiz nights, you name it. You will definitely have a great time here. Anyone who does not like this place must have a screw loose!

‘Oney’s’ as locally known is a great spot for a laid back drink. Unpretentious, it attracts a really mixed crowd, including students and people old enough to be their parents! It has been refurbished recently and there are a mixture of booths and open tables for sitting at. There is a decent enough restaurant attached, but you can get food in the bar until 8 – 8.30pm. I was surprised to hear stuff about a ‘bad crowd’ as I generally go there because it seems not to attract scumbags the way some places in Carrick do. If anything you’ll get the occasional 17 year old puking in the toilets, but I’ve never seen any aggro, and if there’s even a hint of mischief the bouncers are straight on it. I would say it is one of the few student-friendly places in Carrick, and it’s nice on Christmas Eve when people seem to meet up with mates just home from the mainland etc. Great for a catch up with friends, jukebox, open till 01:00, no problem getting taxis, a few doors up from the Chinese what more could you ask for?! ;-)

nice atmosphere of a place and the food tastes good and is reasonably priced. the selection of food is also pretty good. I prefer to eat here at lunchtime rather than in the early evening, as i don’t like getting caught up with all the pubgoers. generally this place is a lovely spot to go for a few drinks, but it can get a bit hectic at the weekend with punters and this can cause a bit of trouble, however, overall it’s a great place to go for a nice bit of lunch and a drink

Popular spot for lunch or evening meal, got decent selection on the menu and food is ok. Probably the best descriptionfor the food is home cooked rather than haute cuisine. Prices are ok too. The place has got a nice homely old world type of ambience. Locally this place is known as Ownies and I have heard stories of a bad crowd at night, especially the weekends! It is fine at lunch time and, as far as my experience goes, in the early evening.
