This venue promote’s itself as Chelmsford’s «Only full-time gay venue» which is kind of true. It’s often a good place to start your gay-life if you have just come out as the people there seem interested in new visitor’s, But once you’ve been there a few times they seem to return to their snobby, «not interested ways» where they rarely seem to want to know you or even been seen with you, sticking instead to their own little clique of friends! The staff are here are relatively polite, but the bar prices are a little more on the expensive side than most of the local places I’ve been to. The resident DJ here on a Saturday is a let-down with very much a «Heart FM» kind of feel to it, where it’s not unusual to hear the same song played more than twice during a visit here — also the music is played far too loud for the size of venue and sound-system that they have in there, often leading me to leave early due to a thumping headache. The best thing about smiths is the Live PA vocalists and the entertaining drag shows which appear every week.
