Alexander’s is an amazing place come rain or shine. I love to go on a Sunday and relax in a great atmosphere to many of the jazz acts, it’s fantastic in the summer as you can sit out side enjoy a glass of wine or two in the sunshine with a lite snack and watch the world go by. I really would recommend it to any one of any age as I have even started to bring my parents who think its great venue and have started to bring their friends.

there are some good nights/days here and perfect in the summer for sitting out side. its huge down side is that it is highly over priced

This is a little out of the way of the main street but still in the city walls. We have been here on 2 separate occasions, both on sunny days, where we have sat in the courtyard and pretended we were somewhere abroad as it is a nice suntrap. The MAJOR downside is that the food has been very slow both times, over an hours wait for 4 sandwiches. Always seem understaffed too. The toilets are very grotty when considering and the bar isn’t much better, but the outside is nice if you can be bothered to wait for food. Staff aren’t particularly friendly, but location kind of makes up for it

Alexanders is a fab little bar, hosting all sorts of different events over the year. Great local bands, stand up comedy, films for the chester festival, jazz. It has a slightly studenty feel to the place, the food is reasonable and quite cheap but i would head somewhere else for dinner early. It is about £10 to get in so do your research ahead of time and check it is a gig you want to go to! we particularly like ‘the loose kites’ and ‘the funky doctors.’

we couldnt come in for just a drink and had to pay £10 a head to see the comedy act, barman was rude and found the drinks expensive. nice location tho, but its worth calling in the red lion across the road first to enjoy the cheap ale.

Alexander’s is a bit of a Chester institution. Serving up a mixture of comedy nights, jazz and other live acts(plus a comfortable bar and seating area) — there is plenty on offer to suit most tastes. The live bands during the summer months are usually the most lively events as the place expands to encompass the adjacent outdoor courtyard, which is a fantastic place to pass long summer evenings listing to live music and sipping cold beer. The comedy nights won’t be to everyone’s tastes — and of course rely heavily on the quality of the acts themselves — they can also get quite busy and stuffy sometimes. Alexander’s plays a valuable part in Chester’s social scene — and whilst it isn’t likely to become a regular drinking haunt, it’s likely you will find an act happening there which will suit your taste.

Situated in Rufus Court just off northgate street in Chester, Alexander’s has become a much loved live entertainment venue. It has hosted dozens of well known comedians and touring bands over the years and has a great atmosphere where most of the time it is ‘standing room only’. Drinks aren’t too expensive and the wine is OK. Not sure about the food, had pitta, houmus and chips not long ago and was disappointed. Doesn’t really feel clean enough to produce nice food! More recently Alexander’s has started to host live music outside in the large courtyard during the Summer. These nights are excellent and fairly cheap for tickets which can be bought on their website.

Really nice bar with a great open mic(even if you only get to play 2 songs!). The other live music seems to be dominated by tribute bands, if you like that sort of thing. The drink is ok. There isn’t a great selection on the pumps but all the main beers. The courtyard is lovely to sit in during the summer.

This is a really kooky little place. It is very small and feels a bit claustrophobic inside as it does get very busy being so popular. However, having said that if you want a night out that is a little different go to their comedy night(£10 to get in). I had a really good night when I went. Although I would say to get there early because all the seats on the lower part nearer the stage get taken up quite early. We sat outside in the courtyard afterwards and had a few drinks. It was a really good night.

Nice courtyard appeal. great atmosphere. I went to a comedy night here which was a hoot. Great value comedy, table and tapas £30 per head. Great food and great comedians — plus the music afterwards wasn’t half bad either
