We came here one weekend, both a bit fatigued from running errands, and running on empty. Ah how happy we were when we saw the menu at Something. It’s imaginative, creative, and above all, funny. I really love the tone this place sets, with their quirky, down to earth comments and signs. I was pleased to notice that, as a vegan, there were several dishes that I could have chosen. I picked the sweet potato quesadillas. My my my, they were delicious. The flavours! A mix of sweet potato, chillis and white beans, sprinkled with fresh coriander. They were just perfect. I also had a side salad, which was also very good — simple, clean tastes. I loved it. My Americano coffee was great too — they use Matthew Algie, which I’d never had before and I liked it. Quite a different taste. Simon H was beyond happy with his meal — but I’ll let him tell you about that. I was amazed to hear shortly after our visit that they had closed. Temporarily I hope, as this menu has been put together by a passionate genius, and he deserves every success. I wish them well, and I hope to be eating here again very soon. As a west-ender, this is one of only 3 places that I would venture south-side for. And that, my Unilocaly friends, really is quite Something.

OK I’ve been in quite a few times now. To be honest the experiences I’ve had have varied wildly. On the plus side I’ve had two or three times when I’ve been been served efficiently had a great sandwich /breakfast and then left for the win! On the downside on other occasions, I’ve had ridiculously slow service and one time when my wife was served mouldy bread. Now that in and of itself wouldn’t be outrageous, as they replaced it, but they never offered a discount or anything else to make up for it. so it really just constitutes poor customer service. My latest trip saw me personally have a good experience although my first choice sandwich wasn’t available. However, I noticed someone else sitting neat the table next to me becoming increasingly agitated as the wait for there food, which in the end never arrived, grew. As such on balance I can only give this place.

A bunch of us booked in for brunch last weekend. We really wanted to try their deal where they cook anything/everything and you eat till you can’t. From the moment we entered to the moment we left everything was perfect. All the staff were super friendly and made us feel so welcome. The food… I love eggs anyway but the way Something pair it up is just sublime. Highlights for me were the sweet potato and lentil quesadillas(I think! We scoffed it so quickly and forgot to ask) and the puy lentils with feta and roasted peppers. I’ve read their vegan dishes are good and I can vouch that they are good. Nothing was a bother for Something. Even when we cheekily had to add another to our group. Facilities were great for a baby. The coffees were especially yummy. We cannot fault Something. After nearly 3 hours and numerous coffees later we had to leave, more so because of other engagements. We had agreed £15 per person but as we’d had specialty coffees we expected(and would have happily) to pay more. Nope it was £15 per head. The chefs were apologetic they couldn’t spend more time with us. It didn’t detract from our enjoyment and it was so nice to see the passion that goes into their food. The timing between dishes was spot on. There was time to savour and rest between each dish so you weren’t rushing. You got time to enjoy each dish. We loved the service and the food. Cannot fault Something and we’re already planning our trip back.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Came as a group of vegans for brunch and was blown away by not only the food but the consideration and kindness shown. Looking at the menu before I came I didnt really know what to expect but was thinking a hummus sandwich and cup of tea. What we were served was a many, many parts tapas style meal beyond my dreams! Beans which melted in your mouth, burrito which was just delicious, sprouts which were amazing. Every single dish was wonderful. Full of flavours, thought through and fantastic. I seriously cant rate them enough. And the staff were just the best! Welcoming, kind, hospitable. I’ll definitely be back!

Since the day ‘that’ job advertisement went viral I’ve been keen to visit Something, and from following reviews and menu updates on here I knew on a visit I’d find something vegan-friendly and satisfying to eat. A friend who lives close by there had success in asking if we could book a vegan meetup there and I have been very excited ever since to see what we’d end up having and if they’d offer any menu adaptations. I am still coming down from my food coma… There were 8 of us and the restaurant suggested making up plates of various dishes and bringing them out one-by-one, banquet style, and us paying a set fee of £11 per person. Normally I’d be wary as people come along with varying budgets in mind but figured by this menu people would likely be paying not far off this anyway and it sounded like there would be an ample amount of food coming, so all was fine, and definitely sounded like the most practical option. In the end we all agreed to put in around £15pp as they were very generous with the amount of dishes that kept on coming, all full of flavour and imagination. This is not the norm when chefs are faced with cooking for vegans! We were also lucky in that we arrived at 11am and an hour or so later it got very busy, by which time we’d been well catered for. First we were oohed and ahhed over a couple of different salads: pomegranate and bulgar wheat, and brussels sprouts and candied almonds. Next we had dishes of white beans and kale, mushrooms and barley, and some breads. Then we had their lentil breakfast bowl minus the feta, and — what I would have ordered had we just been sticking to the menu — sweet potato quesadillas. At this point we were all starting to feel quite full(it worked out around one plateful of each dish between 4 people sharing) and thought that may have been the end of dishes… but oh no! Next came a bowl of lentils and mushrooms, more bread, a plate of their home fried potato, and — one of my favourite dishes offered — kung po caulflower and rice!!! So good! When we were asked if we wanted to try their rosti… well, it would have been rude not to, but we asked for a smallish one, just enough for us all to have a bite! It really is a shame so many people are put off by food just because of what it *doesn’t” contain, they’re missing out on such great nutritious food. One of our party was gluten free, too, and the only thing she avoided was the quesadilla. By this point I really needed something sweet and washed it all down with a soya ‘Jim Bond’ — coffee, milk, and gingerbread syrup shaken and poured with ice. Recommended, and would go lovely with a shot of whiskey were they licenced or you brought your own BYOB!

You know when you just get good vibes about a person/place/thing? I got a tonne of those from Something. Something know how to do brunch. I’d call them champions on that front. Here’s why I’m a fan: — Bright, uplifting interior — Fun, friendly staff — Funky, soulful music — EGGSONBREAD. I had The Stornoway(black pudding, caramelised onions and miso butter on grilled sourdough) and it may well be my favourite brunch of all time. The brunch options at Something are original and well-crafted. And a plate of eggs on bread will fill you up, for sure. Oh, and… where, oh, where do they get their black pudding? — I’d kill to know, because that stuff was the thing of dreams. I’m genuinely devastated that I live so far away. We travelled from Glasgow City Centre to Clarkston just to brunch at Something, and we’d do it all over again. And again and again…

I went for Wednesday morning brunch at Something. I ordered the Tolteca which was bursting with flavours and my mum had the Sorrento which was just as good. Both were variations of fried eggs but with lots of added accompaniments that make them a really filling and flavoursome meal. They do a byob which I plan to do for a wee Prosecco lunch over the festive period. They also plan to open until 10pm soon. Would really recommend for dinner. There are lots of cafes and eateries around, but ‘something’ is a cut above anything you will get at the price and with excellent service. Drinks are also a bit different — I had a chocolate and hazelnut latte called the Nutella. For a wee coffee & croissant alone, its worth a visit.

Oooh, this one is late. All I can say is YAYFORALLDAYBREAKFASTYBRUNCHSTUFF! A very nice Unilocaly brunch day out was had here last month and it was fantastic! In spite of the hiccup where our reservation time was mixed up(it was meant to start at 11am, but they had us booked in for 12pm), they managed to jig things around so we only had to wait 15 minutes instead of an hour, which was really gre The portions were titanic and very well received, although we over-ordered because we weren’t expecting American size portions which had defeated us before the end of the meal. Harry and I each ordered two items, plus the Soup of the Day between us — a lovely parsnip soup served with a hunk of crispy bread — which came in what can only be described as a pasta bowl! For myself, I ordered the Potato Rosti with fried egg, which was served with caramelised onion and herbed crème fraiche. It was delicious, though I found myself wanting a little more crème fraiche. Because there were so many tasty things on the menu I also ordered the Marseille sandwich, a delectable combination of roast turkey, brie, apple, pear, shallots, and tarragon aioli on a ciabatta. Yum~! After tackling the rosti and double teaming the soup, I only managed two bites from from my beautiful sandwich before proclaiming defeat! Luckily, the lovely waitress packed it up for me to take away, where it went on to be devoured as an afternoon snack. The staff and the owner of this place are wonderful people, always up for a bit of banter. The mastermind behind this place is American(the clue is in the portion size), and he loves talking about his food. You can really see that he has a passion for his product. I think I’ll be bringing the parents here of a weekend for some fun more brunch shenanigans.

Finally got to try Something after hearing so many good things about it and loved it! This place is easy to miss if you’re driving past and if you’re walking past just looks like a little café. But you’ll probably spot the menu or the specials in the window and hopefully that will tempt you in! We arrived about 2pm and it wasn’t overly busy, a friendly member of staff welcomed us and told us to take whichever table we wanted. She brought over some water and the menus to the table and gave us some time to have a read. There were so many dishes I loved the sound of — I think I need to back to try some of them! I finally decided on the Something Special which was a big plate of food — two eggs, two slices of toasted sourdough, home fries, black pudding, Boston beans and a giant pile of crispy bacon. All this for £11 which included a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a filter coffee. A great deal. I watched my orange juice being squeezed there and then and it tasted so good. Our food arrived after a short wait and all of it was delicious. I was very happy with my choice. The bacon was crispy, salty and fatty — not to everyone’s tastes but worked really well with the others parts of the dish. The beans were lightly spiced and packed full of flavour, adding my black pudding to the separate dish of beans was divine. Somehow I managed to eat the whole lot and I wasn’t hungry for dinner till about 8pm. Well worth a visit!

So big day out the south side! Yep that right Unilocal goes all the way to the southside. So today is brunch club and something mixed up out booking time 11am for 12 and they got 11 people for noon! So we had a little wait. So they do eggs and this is what the specialise in. Unable to choose Austen m and I decided to select our own main and has a little sandwich on the side to share. I went for the fried eggs with lentils on a pitta bread. It was very good. Lentils were soft and full of flavour the feta complemented it beautifully. Eggs were good but I’m not a massive fan of eggs. The sharing sandwich we got the Saigon it was tasty also. The house potato were also very good perfectly seasoned. Very big portions for such a small café. If I lived close by then I’d say it’s nice wee place to go for breakfast

I’m always happy to write a 5-star review and when that review is for a place I’ve had brunch then that makes me twice as happy(what can I say, brunch is the best meal ever, disagree? Then stop reading because you are an idiot… well, mostly an idiot…) ANYWAY! Eggs on bread, eggs not on bread, and a variety of other things is what Something sells. Given that is what they sell, you kinda hope they’ll be good at doing eggs. They are good at doing eggs. I ordered the Stornoway. A large piece of sourdough bread, lightly toasted, smothered with caramelised onions and miso butter, two slices of black pudding and two fried eggs. Sounds simple enough, right? Well once you break into the perfectly fried egg, and the yolk trickles out to join the party, then it becomes a wonderfully creamy and unctuous(what a great word!) combination that, whilst filling, was utterly delicious. Add in a Vietnamese coffee — a rich bitter drip coffee filtered over a generous helping of condensed milk — and I left feeling sated and ready to curl up on the sofa for a snooze(alas I was going to the gym, will plan that better next time!). Bonus points for the fact that this visit was along with 12 or so other Unilocalers for our brunch club, and they dealt with all our fussy ordering and the food came out in reasonably good order, all delivered with a smile. I live in the West End of Glasgow, Something is on the South Side but, for a brunch that good, it was well worth the travel! Tip: you can park on the roof of the building — 50p for two hours. So there’s really no excuse!

My first Unilocal brunch, yay! A lovely place, very accommodating and friendly. The food was fantastic. Just what I needed. I got the French toast with maple syrup and bacon. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but pretty darn good! Their chai tea latte is one of the best I’ve had in this city so far. Not a huge amount of seating but they moved tables together to seat us all as a group. If I’m ever in Clarkston again I’ll be popping back in!

I’ve being wanting to try here for a while as my friend and her husband run this wee gem out in Clarkston. «Clarkston?» I hear you say? «Whit?» I know, I know! This isnae the toon but please take a wee trip out as it’s definitely worth it. The Unilocal Brunch Club decided to give the place a wee try and I was like pleeeease take me with you. We had a good crowd and we were not disappointed with the menu. Their speciality is eggs on breads so think Eggs Benedict style. I opted for the French Toast Canadian Style with maple syrup and added bacon. It was very filling but very tasty. They have a great coffee and drinks selection. I opted for a fresh orange juice but I wouldn’t mind trying out their mocha next time. Slurp! Parking is a bit of a nightmare so I suggest jumping on the train, it’s literally round the corner and you’re not far out from the City Centre. Overall, aye, it was quite«something» and they did a fantastic job especially as Harry and Jen had ordered half the menu. My friend’s husband is American so big portions guys. Yaldy!

This place is absoloutely brilliant. Went here for a Unilocaly brunch and we were not dissapointed. A word to the wise tho the portions are big, i wildly underestimated them and ordered the something special, soup of the day and a saigon sandwich. The sandwich is like a baguette and would have sufficed on its own. the soup comes in a pasta size bown and obviously the breakfast is a full plate. The order kicked me in the rear and i had to get the sandwich to go and we double teamed the soup lol. Starting with the something special, you get boston beans, two slices of toast, lovely crispy bacon, some stornoway black pudding, two fried egs and some home fries which are chunks of seasoned potato. It also comes with a filter coffee and some orange juice. And i mean orange juice, its freshly squeezed and tastes brilliant. The soup of the day was parsnip and its served with a big chunk of crispy bread. the soup itself was delicious, just the right thickness, peppery and tasty served piping hot so as you can enjoy your dunk with plenty of time before it goes stone cold. Finally is the saigon sandwich which is viatnamese banh mi with shredded chicken, almond/peanut butter, shiracha mayo, pickled slaw and some pumpkin seeds. Now this does sound like a dizzying array of flavours and i agree it is but it works so well, there is no flavour which is overpowering and they all get a chance to shine. The final part that makes this such a great place is the staff. All the servers are friendly and cant do enough for you, happy to help and pack up your sandwich when you have clearly underestimated the size! Also the chef is brilliant as is the owner, always up for a chat and likes to talk about his food and business and just things in general. A great place to visit and i can see myself going back alot as there is so many things on their menu that i want to try!

We are going where??? Clarkston you say? Right ok, is it safe? Will we make it back to the real world? These are all questions you may ask when I recommend you try something. But bare with me it’s actually worth the trip — IF — you like eggs! Eggs are defo their speciality, they give them a lot of love and since I love them to, I was really looking forward to brunch club this morning. The menu is so awesome I ended up wanting everything. Trudie M and I got an egg dish each and shared chips and a roll. I had the Calabria. Eggs on toast with spicy sausage and salad. I flipping loved this dish. The spice level was amazing and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Eggs are so often done so badly and boringly in Glasgow, this place changes the game in terms of the egg menu they offer. The home fries we’re great to. Small squares. They are more like mini tatties than fries. I still ain’t got to the sandwich yet. I had half a banh mi called the Saigon, it was as you imagine a Vietnamese flavoured pork roll. It actually was very nice, for me it could of been a bit heavier on the Vietnamese flavours, but it was a good effort. All that’s left to say really is that it’s an American style diner in terms of décor and it gets very very busy at a Saturday lunchtime. If you love egg dishes this is the place for you.

I was convinced to eat black pudding here. It is now the only place I will eat black pudding. Black pudding is fucking gross, but somehow it’s delicious here. So is everything else, and the things that are supposed to be spicy are actually spicy. Everyone here is kind of a hilarious, dickish, sweetheart; the music is great, and the coffee concoctions are good and cheap. I want to come back and eat everything, but it’s basically winter in Glasgow now and I live in sunny Los Angeles, so see you never, Something.

Since my previous review, I’ve become a bit of a Something regular. It’s so close to me and the perfect place to pop in for a quick or slow lunch, so I’ve been finding myself visiting every week or so since they opened. That means I’ve tried a lot of the menu(I don’t think I’ve ordered the same thing twice yet) and I thought it was fitting that I make my 900th review Something special(geddit!?) So, what have I tried? The Howard Beach with avocado purée — this was my first dish on their opening day, a lovely eggs on bread dish with avocado, a smattering of herbs and a lovely side salad.(All eggs on breads dishes come with fried eggs and a different bread to match the dish). Shakshuka — this isn’t something which appears on many menus in Glasgow but I loved the version here. The sauce is very rich and you might struggle to finish it — I had to take half of it home to have for a late lunch/early dinner, it was that filling. Softly poached eggs in the shakshuka was cooked just how I like them — very runny, perfect to mix in with the rich sauce. There was nice pops of feta throughout too, and hunks of bread on the side. The Baghdad Salad — I thought I should try something different, so ordered a salad to takeaway one when I was in for breakfast. Pearl barley, toasted almonds, barberries, honey sumac vinaigrette. This isn’t the kind of salad I would normally make for myself but I absolutely loved it. The vinaigrette gave it a nice zing, and I love a flaked almond. This had many flaked almonds. Yum. The Novara — roast turkey, tallegio cheese, tomato and Chicago-style giardiniera on focaccia. I didn’t know what giardiniera was. To be honest, I didn’t really care — I kind of just wanted to go with it and enjoy the ride.(It’s pickled vegetables, if you really want to know.) Again, a flavour-packed dish with lovely spices and herbs, and a nice side salad. I struggled to finish this portion but I was feeling weak that day. Home Fries — these aren’t like UK fries, they’re like chopped pieces of potato(the staff pointed this out to me when I ordered them which I thought was nice, just in case I was expecting actual fries. I wasn’t, but it was still nice to be told). These are like crack, if I knew what crack was like. I believe it’s addictive and these definitely are. So much so I ate two portions of them in about 2 days, that’s how much I loved them. The High Street sandwich(available as takeaway) — ham, cheddar, red onion, plum chutney on grilled sourdough. One day I was working from home and was running really short on time for lunch. I phoned in my order, drove down(less than 10 minutes) to find it ready for me, grabbed it and got back home in plenty of time for a call I needed to be on. I was kind of hoping they’d be rubbish at takeaway so I could cut back on my Something visits. They aren’t, they are really good. I’ve also seen staff from a nearby pizza chain business coming in to get their lunch takeaway. This was one of my favourite sandwiches, only because I didn’t expect to be so impressed from a pretty bog-standard sandwich. It was absolutely massive, so much so that I had half for lunch and then shared the other half with my husband for dinner that night(with a piece of fish each). I think the chutney and the amazing ham really make it. The Saigon — banh mi with pork, peanut butter, sriracha mayo, slaw, pumpkin seeds. Banh Mi was a staple part of my diet living in Melbourne but there’s not too many places that do it in Glasgow well. This was just lovely — I can’t remember the PB on it if I’m honest but I was glad to see mayo on there(which I think is essential). Again, a massive hunking portion. The Sorrento — house pesto, goats cheese, sun dried tomato on ciabatta. I love that they make so much stuff in-house as it’s nice to see they aren’t taking the easy option with the food. I also love a really runny fried egg, and this was just perfect. Tea/Coffee: they do normal tea and it is very cheap(I think £1.50) as well as filter coffee for £1 which I’m yet to try. I had a pumpkin spice latte which was £3, I’d never had one before so I have nothing to compare it to but I really liked it. They can do soy if you need. I’m really trying to eat the whole menu — for review purposes, of course — so I’m sure there’ll be another update soon. I find this place really good value for money, some people might disagree but the portions are generous and there’s a lot of love in the food. I can’t think of anywhere in Glasgow serving food like this and I’m so pleased they’re so close to me as it makes it so easy to support them. If you don’t live close by, its really easy to get to by bus(so I’ve been told) and by train. And here’s hoping they start opening in the evenings soon for more Something eating opportunities.

Oh my! Visited here yesterday morning and I’m still salivating at the thought of how delicious my food was! Lovely, bright, welcoming place(including the staff) and such a different menu. It really is like nothing I’ve seen before — focuses on «eggs on breads» with a variety of other toppings. I’m not making it sound as exciting as it is with that description though! I had the Sorrento — toasted bread, goats cheese, 2 fried eggs, home made pesto(best I’ve EVER tasted!) & sun dried tomatoes. The breakfast menu had lots of interesting options, none that I’ve ever seen before — even the full breakfast style option was different(came with little cubed potatoes & Boston beans) & my husband said it was the best! I didn’t pay any attention to the lunch menu as the breakfast one had me enthralled! Coffee was perfectly made & tasty(my espresso & husband’s filter coffee) and the freshly squeezed orange juice was great too. Go, try it! I reckon you’ll be salivating about it for days after too!!!

Not got time to blather on like I usually do in reviews, just got enough time to say«get yourself in here ASAP». It’s a truly fantastic place with imaginative food served for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Very friendly and warm service too.
