Typical «need to get crap for people back home» shop. I have friends who collect fridge magnets so that was my mission. Mission accomplished… but at a pretty high price!

While the guy serving me was friendly and efficient, I don’t understand how two other staff think it’s appropriate to keep people waiting, while they are counting coins. This is an airport, travellers stop at the shop on their way to the gate — getting shoppers through the store quickly should be the priority.

Definitely some cute kitsch in here but if you’re staying in the UK, you will be able to find it all cheaper.

Magasin dans la zone sous douane du Terminal 1 d’Heathrow, rempli de gadgets divers dont le seul point commun est d’être d’une manière ou d’une autre frappé de l’Union Jack ! L’enseigne «Glorious Britain» se retrouve dans les aéroports londoniens de Gatwick, Stansted et bien sûr Heathrow.
Bel exemple d’un marketing à l’échelle d’un pays, dont nous semblons à peu près incapables en France: imaginerait-​on un business de nounours ou de chaussettes à l’effigie du coq gaulois ou du drapeau tricolore? Le seul imaginaire collectif avec lequel on arrive à peu près à s’en sortir est celui du Paris d’Amélie Poulain, ce qui conduit à de drôles d’anachronismes quand on trouve une boule à neige avec la Tour Eiffel dans un magasin de souvenirs Made in China du vieux Nice…
Mais je m’égare.
Donc, si vous avez oublié le souvenir de Londres pour votre grand-​mère ou votre neveu, vous avez encore le temps de vous rattraper à la dernière minute avant de reprendre l’avion. Naviguez serré entre les mugs à l’effigie du prince George (si vous né saviez pas qui c’était en arrivant à Londres, vous le saurez forcément en repartant) et les slips décorés d’une carte du Tube, et vous trouverez peut-​être un cadeau rigolo et pas trop naze. Il y a des thés, des gâteaux, des T-​shirts potables… Résistez aux tentatives pénibles de la vendeuse de vous vendre d’autres trucs inutiles et chers, Keep Calm et bonne chance !

As a last stop to get that final or forgotten Southerner, this place does the job. It has everything from shirts, to pens to statuettes and everything in between. Prices are higher at the airport but it definitely serves the purpose of the last minute traveler!
