The royal oak was like an oasis in the desert for me.
Lost in the area for work, I was more than happy to find this lil gem near my hotel.
I have been quite a few times there.
I almost went through the whole menu :). Never been disappointed with a special for the courgette and mint soup (I didn’t know it was that good) and the pimm’s with lemonade.
The food there is very good, the portions are quite big and last but not least it’s not expensive.
The service is very effective and fast. People working there are kind and they always smile.
The only point is to not forget to call as it can be full.

I only discovered this place a few weeks ago; having been redirected there by the staff in a pub in Wolston as a good pub for food (there are no such pubs in Wolston). I have eaten here twice since, and I am most impressed by the food. We had both a meat dish and a vegetarian disk and they were both excellent on each occasion. The portions are large and a step above standard «pub grub» in both taste and style (without wishing to sound pretentious I hope). The staff are polite and helpful, and the prices are very reasonable. It does get very busy at weekends at least, so consider booking ahead.

Nice atmosphere. Good pub menu, generous portions. Good service and prices. Overall a nice alternative to a more expensive and fully booked restaurant.
