I really wanted to give this place a 4 or 5 star review, but I really feel that a 3 star is more justified, I’ll explain why… The thing that I don’t like about this place is the STAFF. The management just doesn’t put much effort into customer service or making sure that their staff are delivering a good service. I’ve lost count of the number of times that I’ve gone in and sat down and not one single person has come over to welcome me or anything like that… worse yet, the last time, the staff were just stood around the bar flirting and laughing and joking! I had to get up and ask for a menu… Now, it’s not necessarily the staffs fault, it’s all about good management and drilling it into the employees to deliver a good service… the one time I complained about my meal not looking anything like the picture, I had the manager(I guess he was) just made a sarcastic comment and walked away! What’s all that about??? But other than that… the place could be amazing, what I like about the place is that the food is GOOD and the décor is amazing! There are loads of food options to choose from and they have vegetarian dishes, it’s also reasonably priced too. So in terms of dining, apart from some false advertising on what their meals look like — it’s good food, I like it. The décor is just amazing, I mean 10⁄10. You have to go just to experience eating in the old court house and look up at all the architecture and really experience it, it’s wonderful. They did have a glass panel over the cellar too, but I heard they covered it up because it caused some sort of problem with people thinking thy were going to fall in? Haha — that’s funny. I hope they put the glass back so I can walk over it again as I enjoyed looking down into the dark abyss. My only recommendation then would be to hire a new manager that is focused on customer service and get new staff. Clean sweep and this place would be amazing — probably one of the best eateries in Coventry.

Situated in the nicer part of the city centre behind the Cathedral Ruins, I would recommend The Establishment if you’re in the area and fancy a proper, quality drink in a more interesting setting. Housed in what used to be an old court building, The Establishment has kept that them running through with some modern touches and it works very well. They have a great selection of wines and cocktails and is probably one of the only places in Coventry centre where you can get a decent cocktail! All priced at around about £6 each, I think they are very reasonable and there’s offers on in the week too. It’s gets busy at the weekend with a great atmosphere and is a welcome addition in a city overrun with pints of cheap lager and buckets of blue alcopops.

An interesting pub near the cathedral in Coventry. Not one of us had any imagination or sprit of adventure so it was fish and chips and mushy peas all around. The fish was good the chips a bit odd and I have to admit, my first encounter with mushy peas was a good one. This was washed down by some great beer. The guitar player on the night we were there was quite good as well. It is quite a big place having been converted from the old court and does have a lively atmosphere. I’d say its worth a visit if you are in Coventry.
