So after my pretty poor first review I was hoping I could give this company a better review as I have had to return. But alas, although this time was not quite as bad as last time. So, two weeks ago my belt snapped(again, they are only an elastic band) on my vax. Took it to Chapmans, it’s local and it’s a ‘mom & pop’ business, Tuesday, they said«no problem, should be a couple of days» so I was hoping to get it back by the weekend. I was about to phone them on Friday and I received a call from them, yay I thought, but no, it also needs a new filter they tell me, ok says I, it’s like 18 months old now. Ok says 5he lovely lady, we will order it. Ok says I, knowing no company can keep spares in for every appliance. But slightly miffed that they had had all day Wednesday and Thursday to make that call to me. But hey Ho! Eight days later, so that’s 11 whole days after dropping it off I ring them(they had promised to let me know when I could collect my vacuum cleaner) Look Chapmans, you’re a local company, you’re close by to me and you’re bloody friendly but if you say you’re going to contact your customers please do that. I’ve been almost 2 weeks without a cleaner, that is not a good thing for anyone. Luckily I have no kiddies at home but I do have 11 days of pet fluff now. Great staff and a great shop but so very let down by the customer service.

This place has been going since electricity was invented. OK, that is a bit of stretch but it has been going since 1925, way before electricity was in most people’s homes. It is fair to say that these folks understand the sparky stuff and the appliances that use it. It is really close to where I live, meaning that is my first port of call when faced with a broken iron or a busted vacuum cleaner. The staff are always super-knowledgeable and helpful and they take the time to talk to you. I once spent a good 30 minutes in there being talked through the various features of irons, I ended up buying the first(and cheapest) one the guy had showed me but it seemed a shame to interrupt him mid-flow. The prices tend to be a bit higher than in the big chain stores or online, but the service makes up for it. There’s also the perk of knowing that they’ll help you out if anything goes wrong. They also offer home appliance repairs and services.
