I decided to ship my clothes, books etc from Toronto to Birmingham by sea. The Toronto people worked in conjunction with Fox who provided the UK leg. My items left my apartment in Toronto on June 23rd-a total of 10 boxes and cases. I had barely moved into my new home in Birmingham when I got an email saying my stuff was due to arrive in Liverpool on July 13th. The pleasant Emma from Fox said that customs would take a little while, but that time from port to my home was estimated to be 7 – 14 days. I emailed back my details. That was the last satisfactory encounter. Apparently, they were very busy. That was what the email on the 25th of July said. The next I heard was on August 20th when they called saying they were delivering 2 days later on the 22nd. Could they deliver when it actually suited me? No. I was lucky that the concierge in my building said they’d keep a key a let them in. Arrived home to find my stuff had arrived. Kind of. 9 things arrived. Minus the biggest suitcase. I emailed my initial mover that night who emailed and cc’d the Fox people saying everything had left Toronto and that they needed to look into it. Nothing. I emailed myself too and they replied on the 27th saying they were looking. Nothing since. In summary: –It’s faster for things to travel from Canada to the UK by sea than from Liverpool to Birmingham with Fox –They took over a month to move things a few hundred miles, but only gave me 48hrs notice of a non-negotiable delivery date –They lost 15% of my personal effects and don’t seem to be working very hard to find them. Is one star too harsh? Maybe. But moving is hard enough without seeing the items you deemed worthy of transport across the world just vanish.
