Cafe Spice

Came in for dinner and had the chicken korma, rice and garlic nan bread. It was quite delicious with good portions served. The staff was friendly and dining area was clean.

Good food, excellent service, drinks too expensive (greedy) no delivery on take away … So that’s a no go

Visited with my girlfriend on a Wednesday — our first visit. After reading excellent reviews on here we were really looking forward to the food! We ordered chicken korma x 2, pilau rice x 2 and shared a garlic naan. Drinks were a large Cobra (£4.50) and a small coke (£1.50). Service was friendly and fast. We didn’t have to wait long before our food arrived, and it was absolutely gorgeous! The rice was light and fluffy, with the korma and it’s sauce tasting delicious! The garlic naan was also beautiful. A futher pint of coke was ordered (£3) and we were so full that we passed on desserts! Having a «Dine» discount card reduced our food bill by 10%. So the total came to under £30! Excellent value, food and service! Will definitely be visiting again! I can honestly say it was one of the nicest tasting korma’s I have ever had!

The restaraunt is small but very pleasant. But I can say the food was excellent, both in taste and in price.
Not bargain basement cheap but you’ll be more than happy with the price once you tuck into your food.
Have been twice, with large parties so far and don’t believe there was an unsatisfied person amongst us either time.

Been here a few times since it opened in 2008. The place is modern in décor and nice and airy, set back from Skinnergate in an alleyway, but all lit up at night and it looks quite pretty when you approach it!
Service is attentive and great food, cooked well and tasty. You can taste the spices in each dish instead of blandness which might be offered in less qualitative places. Reasonably priced we will keep returning when we fancy a curry (although book a table as it gets very busy).

We used to use this place all the time and the quality was high now it is both expensive and very poor. We ordered a take away on a Saturday evening i had nawabi murgh no taste no chillis and very poor my wife had chicken tikka jalfrezi terrible she ordered keema rice and got plain pilau .This has gone from being the best in Darlington to being the poorest in Darlington please go and spend your money elsewhere as it will cost you a great deal of money here for very poor food.

I’ve been eating at the Café Spice ever since the opening night. Mark and Brian (The Establishment) are good friends and are very passionate about the food they cook and how it is served. I have tried many dishes from their menu and I have never been disappointed with the standard of food.
As an ex soldier I have had the opportunity to serve in countries all over the world. I can honestly say that I have never tasted Indian cuisine as good they serve in the Café Spice. The restaurant is tucked away in Clarks Yard just of Skinnergate. An afternoon menu used to be available however, since the business has become more well known the business has picked up to a point that the staff were working an 18 hour day, that is the reason the Café no longer opens for lunch time.

Have had 2 takeaways from here and both times the food was lush and was nicely garnished. The first time was a delivery, it came exactly on time and the food was piping hot. The second time I had to pick it up as they dont deliver on a Friday or Saturday night. It was the first time I had been inside the restaurant and it looked nicely decorated and was quite busy, but it is only on the small side. The food was ready and again hot. The next time I eat from here I would like to go for a sit down meal. The staff were very friendly and the prices reasonable too.

Café Spice offers lunchtime and early evening specials probably because they seem to be struggling as it never seems to be busy.
I don’t know why they are not as busy as they should as the food is top quality, the service is very professional, the restaurant is spotless and the décor is in a tasteful contempory feel so therefore everything is just right here. I hope they get more in through the door and people give them a chance.

This restaurant just opened 2008, so is pretty new. The décor is contempory with lots of wood and leather chairs, looks bright, fresh and clean.
The staff are friendly and polite. The food is good and the naan bread is pretty big, so if you don’t have a big appetite, I’d suggest sharing one ;)
We’ve tried a combination of meat and vegetarian dishes, my only critisicm would be the lamb; we did try one lamb dish, unfortunately a lot of the lamb was grizzly and chewy, which is a shame as the creamy spicy suace it came in was very tasty (I think it was called ‘Bengal Surprise’, I could be mistaken, the ‘surprise’ bit was definitely in the name).
As Chicken Jalfrezi and Bindi Bhaji are two of my favourite dishes, I did try these and I must say that they were both very good — we were even give some complimentary bombay potatoes which were rather scrummy too!
I’d definitely recommend at least trying this place and I think I’ll have to have a few more trips there myself.
