Coming here and from the menu description of each dish. I was expecting juicy tasty food. What I got was dry and bland. pricey too. Darlington needs a good restaurant.

Just had my husbands birthday there! I can’t compliment enough! From the initial meeting of setting up balloons and our b-day cake to coming in with him.. They hid it really well from my husband and were very nice.. after so long the chef came out to see if all was ok which was great! Never had a better service of dining out before!

Ochis is a very under-rated restaurant. The food here is amazing, full of flavour and reasonably priced. The choice available is varied, as are the drinks available, including cocktails. Staff are very helpful, answering any queries you may have and doing a great job of ensuring your visit is as pleasant as possible.

Booked a week in advance for christmas Eve, asked for a lobster to be available, on ordering from the menu, no lobster available. Which was disappointing, but, it turns out, not as disappointing as the food. I ordered Crab meat in a coconut sauce, well I got the sauce in the crab shell, but try as I might no crab meat was to be found, which leads me to my mains. I ordered the mixed kebab, which I think, can only of been assembled from the left overs from the last ones they served, the smallest, driest bits of meat I have ever tasted, on complaining, no discount was offered save for a free cocktail, not a lot of use as I was driving. Very disappointing as I had heard great things about this place.

Ochis is a well established, well respected Caribbean restaurant. It’s a bit of a funny one as you either like Caribbean food or you don’t. I first tasted plantain here when we ordered a mixed potatoes dish and that got me hooked and now I buy my own from my Indian supermarket on Gladstone street(East West cash and carry). If you are wondering what a plantain is then have a look in Google. It looks like a banana but tastes nothing like one as intact you treat it the same as a potatoes mash it, roast it, boil it etc, I cut mine into fritter size shapes coat with oil and season with salt and pepper then either roast or pan fry them. I enjoy anything new or different and Ochis is good for that thou I prefer my food to be a little stronger in taste but in general the food is good. They have live traditional music on the last Wednesdays of the month. They also open for lunch Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Friday and Saturday they stay open until 2am. They cater for any special occasion from weddings christenings etc to business lunches.

I’d always wanted to try a meal at Ochis and was lucky enough to do so when a friend came to visit. he wondered where I was taking him as we headed up the dark stairs but once inside it was if we were on a island(well nearly). The walls are painted as if you’re sitting on a balcony or terrace overlooking the seas but sadly the real view is of a not very nice part of town. Making up for the views are the food and that is what we really came for, good home cooking from the southern oceans. The service wasn’t overly quick but then we weren’t in a hurry overall I’d be happy to go back again.

i’ve been to ochis a number of times and love it. i surprised my fiancée sneaking her parents up for a visit and the staff were very helpful, letting them hide in the kitchen until we were seated. the atmosphere is lovely and the food is great. try the yams.

Lovely food — I had the Goats Cheese with Red Union Marmelade to start followed by the Lamb Curry and Plantain — lovely food, excellent service and very friendly staff. Have been to theme nights before — the music is great and lovely to try things as part of a buffet that you wouldn’t usually order.
