It’s what you’d come to expect from a Toby’s. On a personal note, I preferred the place before it was refurbished and this one can be busy and hit and miss. For the price you can’t really grumble.

This place is a typical Toby Carvery though we wasn’t there to eat as it has a lovely beer garden so we just came to have a couple of pints here, though the staff are friendly and seems like a nice restaurant.

I love a good Toby Carvery as much as any other foodie, and this one is no different. Rustic, old fashioned layout and furnishings, a good strong bar and dimmed lights make it the perfect atmosphere for conversation. The drinks are average prices for the north, but who goes here for the drinks? It’s all about the food. There is a wide range of food available but the main attraction is the Carvery. Plentiful meat and Yorkshire puddings greet you at the counter, and a variety of vegetables at the other end. The only negative aspect of the food is that it can be dry due to the warming lamps above the food. The staff are generally attentive, especially Scott and John the cooks, but waiting staff can be a little distant — we met our supposed server Mel as we were leaving. Great place, great food, great chain of restaurants.

This is our favorite Carvery bay far, it’s our yardstick for others(though we haven’t tried any other Toby yet). I’ve no problem with the rustic décor as it adds to the old y world y experience, it’s clean and hygienic, this is what’s important. I’ve no problem with the meat portions(what do people expect) but I have found the turkey a little dry and have occasionally found the beef difficult to chew so I go for the gammon and pork. The large variety of roast spuds(oh those roast spuds), mash and veg is what does it for me and cooked to perfection, everything is full of flavor. Only once have I been and things were a little dry but I guess this will happen elsewhere when you visit at the end of a quiet period.

As a family of five and a baby we went to this toby, i must say we all were quite dissappointed, the food was mediochre, the serving of meat was miniscule we were seated at the back near the kitchen far away from other people(we have a special needs son) and i didnt think anything of this until another large family with a disabled son was seated out back with us i felt segregated, im hoping this was not the case and that the rest of the pub was reserved, the décor was dated and toilets were drab, some oomph needs to be added, the staff was pleasant, but pleasant staff does not make up for the lack of taste in the food. thumbs down from us and wont be going back againothers toby carverys are far more superior.

I often go to this Toby for lunch with the family as it’s quite good. As with most carveries, you get to fill your plate yourself with as much veg as you want and a chef gives you some meat. I am normally really pleased with the quality of the food and it’s always fresh and hot. There’s plenty of seating in the restaurant and I always avoid busy times so I’ve never had much problem getting a comfy table.
