Walked here from Seaford. The atmosphere in the pub was welcoming. All the staff were pleasant and friendly. Some six real ales — I choose the Hook Norton. The meal we had was superb. We stayed the night. The room was clean. comfortable and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was fantastic again. The location of the pub is sensational. We shall certainly go back.

After miles of wandering over cliff-tops, beaches and muddy paths in the beautiful South Downs, you might start dreaming of a cosy pub with tasty food on a village green, to put your feet up and warm your wind-blushed cheeks. The Tiger is exactly that! Food is prob at the pricey end for pubs in the area(mains £8−13) but it’s one of the most appealing menus I’ve seen in ages. The specials board made my tummy rumble out loud — I can vouch for the salmon fishcake burger hitting the spot, though actually the ploughman’s salad, sausage & mash, butternut squash risotto and classic burger all got demolished around me with plenty of mmm’s from my mates. Not quite perfect as nobody came over to clear the last party’s empty glasses, plus our food took a while to arrive(though being starving prob made it feel a lot longer). Plenty of bizarre stuff hanging on the walls to look at in the meantime. Saved by the v friendly server who I chatted to at the end — apparently *historic fact alert* the inn’s been owned by the same family since 1807! He recommended a visit to the nearby Birling Gap and was nice enough to give me a map and directions to get us started :-) Heart-warming stuff all round.

This was our first visit back to The Tiger since it changed hands. The food before was great and we were pleasantly surprised to see and taste that it has only gotten better. It was so good we went back a second time with friends. The new owners have kept the décor much the same(thankfully) and had a few good beers on tap. They also added additional seating outside which was much needed. The burger and grilled veggie sandwich were fantastic.

How does one taste the real essence of east Sussex? How does one regress to captivate the foundations of time? They go where is it warm, where the wind blows to only whisper, where the smiles and charms of the waiters hold up a pleasant atmosphere. This is a place where food and drink come together as one, where family and friends venture to and where many travellers stumble across; only to leave a piece of themselves behind. The frame of inn from outside is merely a simple house but inside its is transformed with a fantastic cottage like feel. The wooden beams and antique furniture, ornaments and log fire make Britain’s history glorious. The food was outstanding and possibly the best pub food Ive managed to devour. The desserts were sensational. The service was 4star worthy and the timing impeccable. Excellently presentation. If thats not enough, Id encourage you to spend £1 more and join in on a pub quiz– where the questions are beyond the regular scope of most. Good mind boggling session.

After a day’s walking on Beachy Head, this is the place to retire to for perfect pub atmosphere and good food. Being on the green, it’s a favourite for people with dogs and children but as they have plenty of tables outside, their play becomes a spectacle rather than a nusiance. We have only had a Moroccan bean burger, but it was very tasty and the bun and chips, excellent. There is a large car park below the pub, so access is great for those of us too lazy to have walked from Burling Gap or the Severn Sisters Country Park. They have pretty rooms for the night too Free wi-fi is available if you ask at the bar. You need it as the signal’s rubbish in that area!

An idyllically situated pub, facing onto East Dean’s almost perfect village green. The interior is precisely what you’d expect: low beams, log fires, traditional furniture, and the green itself provides a fantastic outdoor drinking area. The pub is the de facto brewery tap for the Beachy Head brewery, who make beers such as Beachy Head Original Ale(4.5% ABV), Legless Rambler(5% ABV) and Parson’s Darby Hole Stout(4.5% ABV). They also serve Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter. They also do traditional pub grub(can’t comment as I haven’t eaten here) and have accommodation. For those who can’t get a willing non-drinking person to drive to the village, it’s a stone’s throw from the frequent 12 bus route from Brighton/Seaford to Eastbourne.

You don’t need a Tardis to travel back in time. Get down to the Tiger in East Dean and you’ll see how marvellous the past is. I don’t think there is a pub in Sussex with such a pleasant setting. It’s right on the village green of East Dean. Not on a road by the green, but right on the green. You step from the pub onto it. Unique. It’s a total joy to sit outside, enjoy a ploughman’s and sup a traditional ale at the Tiger and, much like you if had taken a trip in the Tardis, you might be mistaken for thinking that you had slipped into a fictional world. When you’re casting your eye around the green you’ll see a blue plaque on one of the houses. Devotees of Conan-Doyle will be pleased to see it’s dedicated to Sherlock Holmes. He retired to South Downs and became a bee keeper… but who knew it was East Dean? Elementary, my dear Watson.

This is a top pub. One of the best in rural East Sussex. It’s located close to the coast & on(I believe) The South Downs Way. East Dean is very pretty and the Tiger is located in the centre on a pleasant green surrounded by those flinted cottages. A kind of living postcard really! There is no vehicular access & consequently kids are free to run about as they wish. It serves Harveys and a decent ploughmans and there are plentiful benches outside for scoffing. Always popular, so get there early. Finished? Now it’s time to waddle to Birling Gap for afternoon tea…

Macdonald style chips and a tiny piece of fish. Cheesecake was delicious, though. Ordered three coffees, assumed milk/cream would come separately in this kind of establishment but it did not. My friends only drink black coffee. This was explained to the waitress, who said if we wanted black coffee we would have to pay again, which we did. She then attempted to take the white coffees, which had been paid for away! Appalling policy. Would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.

I have fond memories of this delightful old style pub and restaurant situated on the village green. Nice outdoors area, and cosy tables inside, however is shut at the moment but hopefully will be up and running in time for the summer sun!

This was a lovely little(little being the operative word) walkers type pub which served lovely homemade grub. Definately worth going out of your way to visit. In a lovely location, on the edge of the East Dean village green which is very picturesque. They had tables outside which were great for a summer lunchtime outdoors, or they never complained if you chose to take your drinks and sit on the green itself to enjoy the sunshine. A little expensive so a treat rather than a weekly outing, but well worth a visit. Unfortunately the pub has been shut for the last couple of months — i’m not sure exactly why, but according to local press and rumour, it will reopen at some point but exactly when remains a mystery. Hopefully in time for this summers sunny months though!
