The Blind Pig

After hearing good things about Monton and what it has to offer in terms of bars and restaurants we decided to check it out on a Saturday night. For food we opted for the Blind Pig. The Blind Pig is more of a bar that does food and the seating on wooden benches isn’t that comfortable and the place does get rather noisy but the food is very good. I ordered the butterfly prawns to start which were cooked beautifully and my main was delicious and quite inventive. It was pan fried squid and king prawns on a bed of tomato risotto. The squid and prawns were cooked to perfection and the risotto was done just the way I like it with a bit of bite. Also the pea purée that accompanied it was amazing and worked extremely well with the other flavours of the dish. The service was friendly and we weren’t waiting too long for service considering how busy it was. I’ll definitely make the trip here again from South Manchester.

Quite amazing what they have done with this place as anyone who knew it as the Drop Inn will tell you. Monton is really going through some serious changes at the moment and will surely become the next Didsbury /​Chorlton.

We had breakfast there this morning, nice food and reasonably priced. Will be back…

Brand spanking newly opened!
At the heart of Monton’s upcoming new businesses, The Blind Pig has just opened renovated that has replaced a previous pub there previously. The décor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment.
It’s a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel.
We went for the food and the cocktails — on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn’t wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls.

Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh.
Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn’t stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. This didn’t put me off the food and the experience we’d had so far and I think it genuinely deserves 4*‘s.
